AutoInvest from Free Funds has been Removed

That’s not a bad shout. This issue was raised three months ago and there is still no resolution.

I find myself with four new pies that I am unable to auto invest in, there seems little point in having them as I have all my investments in Trading 212 and auto invest no longer works. It also doesn’t help that my linked external account won’t allow 212 to take money from there either.

Come on Trading 212, this is not good enough!

From what little they have commented, they’re planning to expand the scope of this change, not roll it back.

They can’t articulate Why they’re making this change, but they’re dead set on doing more of it. :woman_shrugging:

Why is this worth T212 spending resources on implementing features, when it only serves to make things worse for the Customer?

Just thinking out aloud (and I could be completely wrong):-

T212 execute the auto invest trade first. At this point the system knows how much money to grab from your account. If your “cash” can’t cover the final and full transaction costs, they need to visit your bank

That accurately describes the system they’ve changed to for new Pies.

Previously, if you had AutoInvest from Free Funds selected, it would try to invest from your Free Funds, and fail to action any investment to the Pie if there were insufficient funds.

A few months ago, T212 sneakily introduced the artificial ‘need’ to take from an External Payment Method if there is insufficient Available Cash - this currently only affects new Pies for UK users.
(new individual instruments, or existing Pies with AutoInvest from Free Funds enabled prior to the unannounced change are currently unaffected)

@RebeaTui Thanks for confirming. I have a suspicion ( and a suspicion only!) the reason for the change is that T212 incur an overspend due to stock price volatility.

@Momchil.G Can you please confirm the reason for the change (requirement for an External Payment method), and perhaps the community can help provide a better solution?

That is the perfect analogy.

I have a target I want to invest each month, and I want to setup my pie to autoinvest that.

But life happens, and some months when I do my planning there isn’t enough left to transfer to T212. That just means I won’t invest as much that month, and it’s ok for the autoinvest to fail and try again next month. It doesn’t mean that I want T212 to come to my bank and take the money that was destined to cover other expenses.

Isn’t that obvious?

I can understand where you’re coming from, but I doubt that’s the reason.

The feature they’ve removed has been running for a long time, and if there were serious problems caused by it, it would have come up before now.

They’ve also only implemented it for UK Users on New Pies (so far).
It doesn’t affect Customers in other markets (yet), it doesn’t affect existing Pie instructions in any market (yet), it doesn’t affect the ability to set new AutoInvest from Free Funds instructions on individual instruments (yet).

They did not make any form of Announcement to Users that the change was being made. They snuck it out like a fart in an elevator.

The limited unannounced roll-out shows, in my opinion, that it’s not an essential change.

The fact that they can’t articulate a clear reason why they spent resources implementing this, in my opinion, shows that they’re spending resources without purpose or direction, nor regard for the outcome.

*multiple “yets” included, because what little T212 have commented suggests they intend to push forward with this expanding this new ‘feature’.

T212 actually also went into my account and AutoDeleted one of my Pies.

They keep defending it saying that I was sent a Notification 10 days in advance - but there was no email, it was just a Notification at the top Bell Icon in the app, which I tune out because it’s never been anything important.

The Pie was empty, because when they removed the ability to AutoInvest from Free Funds in new Pies, I consolidated some things so that I had a spare Pie that had that ability still available, as it’d been set up with that instruction type prior to the change.

Between the Notification that they were going to AutoDelete the Pie (due to inactivity), and the day it was actually deleted - while I was unaware of this pending deletion - I’d completely reconfigured the Pie, changed the name, changed all the instruments for a new investing theme - then, the day I went to deposit funds, I found it was gone.

After contacting Customer Service they said there was nothing they could do, and that I had been Notified. I had to ask a half dozen times why this AutoDelete feature even exists, as they kept ignoring the question, and they have eventually responded that they cannot tell me.

I’ve lost some time on configuring the instruments (for once, I’d actually closed all the tabs I had on my computer researching the instruments, because I thought it was now safely saved in a Pie!)
The far more infuriating part is that I’ve lost a Pie that still had the AutoInvest from Free Funds option available.

Why do T212 spend their resources creating ‘features’ that make the Customer Experience worse, without any good reason?

‱ AutoInvest from Free Funds removed - maybe they generate a little extra revenue in card transactions, at best?
‱ AutoDelete inactive Pies - maybe they save a couple of kilobytes of storage?
(I can still see the ‘events’ of the Pie, such as dates funds went in and out, and when changes were made, but I can’t see the instruments, or the name - so it isn’t even a complete data purge!)

:backhand_index_pointing_up: These possible ‘benefits’ to T212 are my own speculation as to the reasons they spent time and resources making these ‘features’ to implement, as they themselves are unable to explain why they do what they do.
These speculative reasons do not seem like they’re worth the resources spent, nevermind the frustration and problems caused to Customers.

I have been very happy learning to invest and dealing with this business in the past but am now becoming concerned. T212 appears to be making some unhelpful changes with no clearly expressed reasons provided. I will investigate some alternative platforms.

Credit card not bank which is why this is wrong
