Holding Stocks or Etf`s in Ireland, advice anyone?

Hi. Having moved to Ireland 2 years ago we quickly found the returns on Banks appaling.

So I joined Trading 212 to find a way to make my money work and have just recently found out that the tax system in Ireland is really designed to not allow you to make money without the Revenue grabbing 38% and on top of it if you decide to hold your portfolio for over 8 years they take your then profit after eight years wether you have cashed in or not.

I want to find a legal way around this system, has anyone had this scenario?

Hopefully the newly announced Irish investment scheme will allow you to move your already invested stocks into it? But, I wouldn’t hold my breath on that happening. Details so far are sketchy, and far from encouraging. They seem to have emulated the Swedish model rather than the UK ISA model. A tax free limit of €28k investment is ludicrous.

Check the exact terms of that new scheme. It might work for new contributions even if existing ones can’t move in.
