Just got my SIPP account setup. Sold down holdings in Invest account and moved the cash into the SIPP. Imagine my surprise when instruments that were available in the Invest account are not available in the SIPP account e.g. crypto ETN like WXBT.
There is no reason for it, the UK Regulator has approved Crypto ETNs to be held in self-invested personal pension accounts.
So I am left with cash in the SIPP which I cannot take out of the SIPP again nor can I reinvest in same instruments.
This is both disappointing of T212 after the long wait for Crypto ETNs on the platform, and should be made much clearer in the FAQ before we sign up for the SIPP, that it only supports a subset of instruments from the Invest account.
You can’t expect a FAQ to list every single instrument available in the SIPP. I am in the middle of transferring multiple SIPPs into an Interactive Investor SIPP. I couldn’t transfer them to T212 for technical reasons but I did do a great deal of investigation first.
No but it would be easy to publicise that you can’t hold any crypto ETN in your SIPP account even though the regulator allows it, after everyone waited for so long for the regulator to make that decision and the products were launched on T212 Invest account and ISA account with a bit of fanfare only about 6 months ago. (It was October 8, 2025 that the regulator approved).
Plus its a non-recoverable mistake, you can’t take the money back out of the SIPP into the Invest account to create the same position.
Sure, I’ll have to wait for my inbound transfer to finish before I can transfer it out again. What a waste of everyone’s time. If only it was clear in the FAQ before you even apply for the SIPP.
How stupid of me to assume the same instruments would be supported across Invest and SIPP accounts since it is permitted by FCA and HMRC.
Remember if you don’t like what you see now that you have your SIPP, you have a 30 day cooling off period where you can reverse that decision and get your money back.
