Hi everyone,
I’m building an independent stock-research dashboard and am currently investigating whether Trading 212 can be used as the primary source for discovering the instruments available on the platform.
The research workflow is already functioning with another provider, currently Alpaca, for price history and OHLCV data. It can screen instruments using configurable daily, weekly and monthly conditions, then perform market, news, sentiment, fundamental and risk analysis.
I would prefer the instrument universe shown by the dashboard to correspond closely to what is actually available to Trading 212 users. Before changing the data integration, I am trying to understand exactly what the Trading 212 Public API provides and whether the demo and live environments behave differently.
The documentation says that:
- Demo uses
https://demo.trading212.com/api/v0. - Live uses
https://live.trading212.com/api/v0. /equity/metadata/instrumentsreturns accessible instruments.- Instrument metadata is refreshed every ten minutes.
I have several questions that I have not been able to answer conclusively:
-
Does the demo environment return the same instrument universe as the live environment?
-
Can the available instruments differ according to account entity, country, Invest versus ISA, or account currency?
-
Does “refreshed every ten minutes” refer only to instrument metadata, such as availability and trading schedules, rather than market prices?
-
Is there an officially supported API endpoint for retrieving current quotes for every available instrument—not only instruments already held in a portfolio?
-
Does the Public API provide historical OHLCV candles for research purposes? I have not found a documented candle or historical-price endpoint, so should applications use a separate market-data provider for this?
-
For
currentPricereturned with an open position, what does that price represent: last traded price, bid, ask or another reference price? Is it delayed? -
Are prices or simulated executions in the demo environment expected to match the live environment, including during extended-hours sessions?
-
Is ISIN the recommended stable identifier when mapping Trading 212 instruments to external data providers? Tickers such as
AAPL_US_EQare Trading 212-specific, and normal symbols can be ambiguous across exchanges. -
How are ticker changes, delistings, stock splits and other corporate actions reflected in the instrument metadata?
-
Are there any restrictions on displaying instrument metadata or derived research results in an independent application? I am not looking to redistribute raw Trading 212 market data, but I want to make sure the integration follows the API terms correctly.
The dashboard does not execute trades or require access to anyone else’s Trading 212 account. At this stage, I am only trying to validate the correct architecture:
Trading 212 API
→ available instrument universe and exchange metadata
External licensed data provider
→ quotes, historical OHLCV and fundamentals
Research dashboard
→ screening, analysis and derived research
If anyone has compared the demo and live API responses, or has experience mapping Trading 212 instruments to an external market-data provider, I would appreciate hearing what you found.
For clarity, this is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Trading 212.
Regards,
Dolphy
