Verifying device without camera?

Well done for finding that.
What happens when you login a second time? Do you have to type in the code from your phone again or is a username and password enough?

One other useful facility in Windows for sites with 2FA that send a code to your phone is to connect your phone to your PC then you can get notifications from your phone including SMS messages. That means the code then appears on your screen (so avoiding you having to get out your phone) and in Windows 11 there is a button on that message code you can copy the code to your clipboard and paste it directly into the code box on your PC.

Unfortunately it did need the code again, but the trick you mentioned is a good idea i forgot about that. It might not be as bad if you use a webcam once and then get the device trusted but from what i read on here people had issues with that too..

I have stated this elsewhere but after using a camera once then I have not been required to use it again.
If I switch PCs then I usually have to re-enter my username and password but only once for each time that I switch PCs. However, that is not an issue because I use a password manager which pre-fills the credentials.

I apologise to those who do not like the suggestion that I previously made but I will repeat it here: Using the phone connection that you have established you can setup your phone’s camera to be as if it is a camera on your PC meaning that you can use it to trust your PC. Alternatively one could spend Ā£20 on connecting a USB camera to the PC.

I do not like having to do these workarounds but in my experience large organisations rarely relax security measures even if they are disliked by the users.

you can argue this point over and over again. I simply don’t want to attach any camera to my PC simply because this is the only platform that requires it. I also have a laptop and I can use T212 there with no issue. But lately I’ve been using my PC 99% of the time and this bothered me a lot. I also use revolut for my investment and now I moved all my trading money from T212 to XTB. Simple as that. I just don’t care. I left only 10% in T212 as long-term investments. It’s their decision if they care about this or not. There are so many alternatives.

your shallowness of looking into this as an ā€œaffordability of a cameraā€ is simply fascinating.

when the title is ā€œverifying device without cameraā€ and people are clearly antagonized by being forced into this; there is zero reason for you to share this epiphany you had about ā€œhey how about connecting a cameraā€ let alone repeating it.

In any case, I was increasing unhappy with all the UX ā€œun-improvementsā€ that lands on every interface refresh, this is the last drop that pushed me over. Waiting on ombudsman decision and haven’t contributed anything in this FY because I highly doubt they’ll revert this. So I’ll likely transfer.

I prefer the 2FA via Google Authenticator and I don’t use the app, unless they want a video, in which case I install it, do the video or take a picture or whatever, then uninstall it. i don’t trust the app as far as I can throw it and phones are unsafe devices. My bank uses facial rec for large withdrawals so I don’t have issue with that and if they want a 6 digit code for the app, fine. But now it’s hassling me about fingerprint on the phone, but the phone doesn’t have a fingerprint reader, so not sure how i’m supposed to enable that. I wouldn’t tie my phone to my fingerprint anyway. Google has no right to that data.

I have wondered what you do if you don’t own a smartphone. Like my sister has an old school phone without all the google/apple crap, just makes phone calls and sends sms. No cameras, no biometrics beyond the power button.

So anyway i’m stuck in this limbo. Tried to withdraw a smallish amount of money and it freaked out, asked me for a video, which i gave it, asked me to do the id check, did that too. now it’s just sat in limbo. Hopefully it fixes itself tomorrow. It’s not like I sold my entire portfolio or something, if they looked at what I sold I basically took some gains and sold some not going anywhere fast stocks and now I want to use that money for something else. This is the first problem i’ve ever had since I joined. Hopefully it fixes itself tomorrow or I guess I need to start looking for a different broker as I need someone who is reliable, not someone that won’t let me withdraw my money should I want to.
