Hi,
For the HRMC self-declaration I might have to declare interest on uninvested cash gained through the invest account of T212 for 2025-26.
Does anyone know how these interests are taxed? Since they are effectively money invested in QMMFs, are they part of the capital gains for which the 3000Ā£ threshold applies (under which you donāt pay taxes, above which a 24% taxation is applied)? Or?
Thanks!
I have raised this with T212 and although they say that uninvested funds go into QMMFs apparently not all. It depends how they interpret and report the āincomeā. As far as I can ascertain they regard it as āinterest incomeā. Tax rate depends on your tax tier starting at 20%.
All the investment return paid on cash held in an account by T212 is interest. There is no capital gains component.
You can read the full explanation about what T212 are doing with your cash by looking at section 12 āInterest Shareing Programmeā of the Invest terms document available at https://www.trading212.com/legal-documentation.
What T212 are doing is investing your cash deposit actively, managing to achieve the highest returns while minimising risk by spreading the cash between vendors. Except in the case of a cash ISA, this could include QMMF. From the returns that T212 make, they pay you interest at the advertised rate and keep the balance for themselves. This is one of the ways that they make money to pay for product that you use.
