Lyxor S&P 500 VIX Futures Enhanced

Hi

Please excuse me but I haven’t a clue what I’m doing but I’m having a go anyway, just for a bit of fun and interest really. I read initially that the S&P 500 was a good long term investment so thought I’d buy a few shares but I bought some shares in the above. Now I’ve already admitted I’m clueless but what sort of shares did I buy because I’ve lost half the value of them over the last 9 months, is this the wrong S&P 500? Do you think the value will come back or should I cut my losses? Also, is there anywhere on these forums who can advise before I buy or shall I just keep watching YouTube videos. I have other shares that are up and down but I would really like to leave a half decent Portfolio for my Grandson to inherit one day. Thank you.

I’m not entirely sure what that ETF does but it’s almost certainly not the one you’ve been quoted on YouTube videos etc.

Have a look at VUSA or VUAG or CSP1 - they’re more likely to have been the tickers quoted.

P.S. it’s a lovely thing you’re doing here for your grandson - keep it up!

Is this ETF?

If yes, this ETF basically follows the S&P 500 VIX Futures, that is “normally” for short term investments, due that it has exposition to the VIX, commonly known as the “fear index”, it rises when there is volatility/fear/blood in the streets (usually the S&P 500 falls) and falls when then the sentiment is positive (S&P 500 rising).

Just see the long term trend (10 years) of this ETFs and some short term performance along the way (if I can bet, I’m betting that it is tending to zero in the long run) :

More on VIX:

If you want to invest in S&P 500, this ETF isn’t the correct way to invest. You can see in the site JustETF, a lot of ETFs with several flavors and some info on them. In every case, before investing in something, first read the most possible, specially in the issuer site/documentation of the financial product.

(Note: Amundi brought the Lyxor company and it’s now responsible for the Lyxor ETFs.)

Thank you for the kind words and advice.

Hi and thanks for the advice. I might just cut my losses and run on this one then.

Regards
