6-digits security code to enter constantly - I cannot disable it

Good morning,

Yesterday, in my App I got a pop up asking me to define a 6-digits security code.

And I enabled this feature.

Unfortunately, since then, each time I open another app on my smartphone, and I come back to the TR212 app, I’m asked to enter the 6-digits code.

Which is very annoying…

I contacted the TR212 support who replied that for security reasons, this feature cannot be disabled…

My question are :

  • what’s your user experience with this new feature ?
  • do you like it ?
  • or would you too want to disable it ?

Thank you in advance

I understand entirely how re-entering a code may feel annoying, but the 6-digit security code serves as an essential extra layer of protection. Its job is to keep your funds and personal data safe, even if your phone itself is unlocked. Whenever the Trading 212 app goes to the background (e.g., you open another app) and you return, it prompts you for the code to prevent anyone from instantly accessing your account if your phone is lost, stolen, or left unattended.

If you’d prefer a quicker way to get back in, you can keep the code enabled and (if supported on your device) turn on biometric login, such as Face ID or Touch ID. This maintains the same security while reducing the frequency of code entry.

I use fingerprint log in.

I don’t think I’ve read such a first world problem as having to tap 6 numbers to log in.

You must hate having to dial a phone number. Lol

You can change this to use your fingerprint instead (if your device supports it). It’s still irritating but a little less so.

Keep in mind you have to enter it each time your TR212 app goes in background.

This means every 2 minutes, i.e. 30 times per hour. Would you still appreciate this ?

Thanks Bogi for your reply !

Here my comment :

If I agree that security is important, it makes no sense to ask for the 6-digits codes every 2 minutes (if I entered the correct code 2 minutes ago, of course I will enter the correct code 2 minutes later).

Just a simple math : this means to enter 6-digits 30 times per hour …!

This 2-minutes timer is way too short. Why not ask the code once every hour ?

Moreover, the choice to activate (or not) this 6-digits code should left to the user (as it is for the method for two-factor authentication method : via a device, of via Google Authenticator which ask for a code).

So the 6-digits code should be a setting in the Settings / Security section, with a ā€˜activate’ yes or no button.

In case of biometry, what will be the (new) frequency of code entry?

If you’re using only the passcode lock, the code must be entered each time you open the app. When Face ID or Touch ID is switched on, you won’t have to type in the code - your biometrics will do the job. If the biometric login isn’t recognised, you must enter the code to access your account.

I’m supportive of protecting my account, but this is excessive. Especially so when on my laptop I get no MFA challenge and thanks to cookies, I’ve not had to authenticate for months. And I don’t have to enter a 6 digit PIN code.

Whereas on my phone, which also has its own fairly aggressive OS screen lock (my choice), I don’t regularly get the MFA authenticator challenge but 30+ times a day I am entering a 6 digit pin?

The MFA challenge should be more like weekly.

There should be some latency for the PIN, so if I’ve entered the pin in the last 5 minutes, don’t ask me until at least 5 minutes has elapsed. Everytime I switch to another app, then back to T212 I’m entering 6 digit PIN which is getting tiresome.

This is exactly what I experience. Thanks for sharing my pain

Why are you keeping the app open for an hour? If you need to buy or sell at a certain price, use the auto trade function.

And as both admins have said, use the bio-metrics to log in if you’re that desperate.

Thanks for your comment.

I don’t need to buy and sell.

I can just want to follow a US session in the afternoon and evening, and keep following the share prices movements  . If an alert pops up, then I need to enter the code (because unfortunately I have no biometric feature on my smartphone).

My Windows 11 desktop never asks for anything when I switch between tasks but I have problem with my Pixel 7a running Android 16 in that I am not offered Face Id as an option on T212 but it is used by Android itself. Anyone know why?

Sorry if this seems like jumping on the band wagon, I have only just registered on this community, today so having trouble adding my message as follows

Time out on platform since bio metric upgrade
Help
Since I was told to upgrade no choice to bio metric upgrade the platform now
times out every time I turn my head or look at another page ,app etc even looking
at a different part of the platform, I only have one finger to use a
I do not want wear out my finger nnlnn this is bad for researching anything every
time you look at the platform you have to sign in again. The software needs
adjusting so the the time out for screen platform inactive and not on the piority
screen is no longer > 0 but at least > 10 or what is the same as 10 minutes, what
do hou think are other people having this problem perhaps they should have a
slider on screen 1 to 10 minutes

I understand the security etc etc, but the software should be able to be adjusted to make the the time out longer, otherwise its like saying if you do not log on and do not use the platform then it’s safe, but one can not Trad like that. Just a few numbers 2 mins 30 per hour min 8 hours 240 time for me about 380 time a day also if you are quick ie look away look back its times out on background which could be more like 20 to 30 per min 240 per hour 1920 per 8hr 2880 per day only a example but yes ridiculous, not ge way to trade my finger will not last that long.

Yes, it’s very annoying. I swap between T212 and Google Sheets to update prices. Face id helps but infuriatingly I still have to ā€œconfirmā€. They should allow at least 5 minutes before re-complliance.

Thanks for your comment !

Exactly my (bad) user experience

Thanks for suggesting we change our behaviour because it does not align with your behaviour.

I hate this implementation of 2FA. When I just want to quickly check numbers, I shouldn’t need to 2FA. I definitely should 2FA when buying/selling things, I wouldn’t have issues with that.

I guess I’m gonna get API key and do what I want.

And what’s next, you’re gonna remove access because I have custom ROM?

Ditto to that, ten fold.
