App forums are now a waste of time

Over the last 12 months I had shifted towards using the in-app forums rather than these forums. However, they have become a nonsense imo. I have just posted the post below in the forums.

Good posts and comments get removed whereas fake information and rubbish gets left. The forums are just not worth the effort of posting. If you spend the time to post detailed analysis and information the chances are it will just get removed where posts just containing fake info or rubbish are left. The result is the forums just end up a waste of time

After my latest post (which took several minutes to write) got deleted I have posted this:

OK someone just posted some fake news (maybe the posted it with good intent not realising is wasn’t true). That post remains.

Another person replied to a comment that I had made about China US trade talks and I took several minutes to reply to them with a long detailed set of comments explaining why I think the US doesn’t have a coherent strategy or policy at the moment. In my reply I used no expletives or “bad” words and simply focused on meaningful analysis and debate. That reply (which took several minutes to write) was removed. Why

These forums are a waste of time. They encourage nonsense and discourage or censor meaningful insightful and helpful debate discussion and analysis.

I’m at the point of giving up posting because its just not worth the effort especially when you take a reasonable amount of time only for it to get removed

Posts like this (just one example there are plenty of others) which is fake information and deliberately trying to spread false information are left alone whereas posts with accurate information (even verbatim quotes of important people such as trump) are immediately removed

The forums have zero credibility and good people just stop using them or posting

I have to agree sadly.

A number of posts on the forum have the same hate and narrow minded thinking unfortunately which is so common elsewhere.
I wanted this forum to be a community where individuals could share genuinely useful advice.

Being in the UK, it’s really interesting to hear from people in the US about events. To engage reasonably with someone from the opposite side of a political divide happens so infrequently than when it does happen, it’s almost a shock, a very pleasant shock though.

Many seem to have lost the ability to think critically and repeat items without any thought about whether it makes sense.

Like you I really would like a community that can share and debate analysis, information and news. I don’t mind that people may have differing views to me not least because in investing I want to hear the alternate views especially if they are reasoned and informed.

The problem is that if I spend 10 minutes+ writing up a detailed chart analysis for a stock only to get it removed for unknown reason I think “what’s the point”. The comment that was deleted yesterday wasn’t a chart analysis but took time to write and was a long critique of US policy and why it lacked clear objectives and was counterproductive. Yes some people may have disagreed but I actually avoided contentious issues.

There does seem to be a significant group that just seem to enjoy trying to annoy or wind others up. Also I often see informative posts downvoted and at times it feels like some just don’t want good information or debate and will downvote or report anything that falls into those categories.

T212 doesn’t seem to care

I very much agree with your post. Some posts about Trump divide the community. I can’t help thinking the situation seems to be spiraling, courts being bypassed and no trials, judges next ? Anyone who disagrees perhaps…

I have seen genuine questions on the forum get down voted and what must be very new people to the investing world getting big minuses for not knowing the basics
Everyone has to start somewhere. How quickly people forget.

Maybe there should be some sort of panel where if you have a certain number of up votes or followers, there is a separate section for others to aspire to. Perhaps there could be a pinned section on ex dividend, what is a dividend, is it low liquidity or t212s dealing set up. Pension or ISA, FAQs etc. I know it’s elsewhere but it’s pretty obvious people haven’t read it

I’m fairly new and found the app forums confusing and very weird. So they’re totally separate to this forum?

I have to say that one of the few (only?) things that my old provider Freetrade managed to do right was its forums. Having a topic for every single stock where people could chat was great and is something I’m going to miss.

Yes. Quite agree with the original post.

This was my added tale of those message boards…

Joining that forum on the app also (as an aside) really brought a situation into my life I could never have dreamed of too at the back end of last year. My whole world changed because of someone who then contacted me off there at acute crisis point in their life and hundreds of hours of communications started.

All very intense and then with no warning things got too much for them and they had to end communications 5 or 6 weeks ago albeit warning me that was the issue. Whilst they still occasionally comment or post on the T212 so I at least know they are alive I’ve had non stop worry about them since as I really mentally invested (and connected) with them as a person emotionally and supportively and can’t reach out as they’ve switched off everything (was only supposed to be temporary but has continued and I only know they are even alive if they pop up here) even just to get a brief welfare update.

I guess it all makes sense with what I learnt mostly in private that they’d potentially withdraw into themselves if social comms became too intense for them but never in a million years did I ever expect to be drawn into such a world after reading the Tesla forum and crossing paths with someone in great distress.

The above is an aside to the topic but makes the app somewhere that turned my whole world upside down and still does because it worries me now how that person is and they’ll know it but they are too fragile I imagine to reach out in any hurry and may never do now. I must respect that though. Whilst its a risk they’ll look at this bit I don’t think they use it and I’ve chosen a different username to post anonymously and hopefully help keep their identity secret out of respect.

Perhaps stick to investing and stay out of politics?

It isn’t that simple just at the moment when it is politics that is driving many share prices.
It would be nice if it was just so much more reasonable, bit more balanced and not blaming immigration so often.

They have also just buried the financial newsfeed which was under each instrument. Limited as it was, it was somewhat informative.
They promoted the meme/emoji feed and in doing so, have -as far as I’m concerned- declared the “dumbification” of T212.

For me, it’s like putting Disney characters on a tobacco product. Or sports-betting. What are we doing here ?

Infantilising and trivialising decisions that can be life altering.

Spot on. True success comes from independent thinking.

Meme and emoji mentality breeds mediocrity. The successful understand that time leverages opportunity, the rest chase quick cash.
Wisdom over noise.

That said, it can also be argued that ‘Facts’ are rarely neutral…they’re shaped by perspective.
It’s also a disappointment to see Buffet dismiss public transport users, as many lack Rolls-Royces by birth, not merit.

Time won’t feed the poor.

Oh dear!!!

If only there was a way to keep politics and business separate.

Perhaps we could form an anti-lobbying Super-Pac lobby? LOL

Lobby the lobbying out of politics !!!
