From big loss to profits... CFD data download NEEDED

Most of the guilt was laid on Barings and the auditing.

Basically it said ā€œa single person should not be able to take a company downā€ the documentary Iā€™ve pasted is old but it is very accurate.

What happens is the executives turns a blind eye on what might be wrong there, simply because he is making a lot of profit (albeit fake profit) and executives get outrageous amount of bonuses out of this.

He has a site, where he promotes himself and tells his version of the story.

Trading isnā€™t a crime, it could violate some company internal policies, but still not a crime. Leeson crimes were about fraud, mainly accounting fraud.

Leeson pleaded guilty to two counts of ā€œdeceiving the bankā€™s auditors and of cheating the Singapore exchangeā€,[2] including forging documents.[21]

He was sentenced to six and a half years in Changi Prison in Singapore, he was released in July 1999 after serving at least two-thirds of his sentence (4 years and 4 months) for good behaviour, and having been diagnosed with colon cancer, which he survived despite grim forecasts at the time.

The punch line of the story for me is, during his interview he says something like, paraphrasing here:

ā€œThey are stupid and they did not know derivatives tradingā€

and this is coming from a guy who lost almost a trillion pounds in derivatives trading

And from a guy donā€™t understand much of macroeconomics, I did some academic research about him and the fall of Barings some years ago, and some of his bets were stupid and ignorant bets. It was pure gambling bets, and as he accumulated 2 roles, on the trading floor and back-office, without too much supervision, he was like a kid in the toy shop.

From what I remember he failed to have a trader license in UK and lied about it, so the Barings shipped him to Singapore.

The ironic, one of his first jobs on Barings, was to investigate a colleague that allegedly had make fraud with a customer account, to cover his trading activities. Maybe it was the inspiration for Leesonā€™s 88888 account some years later.

Leeson were a simple back-office grunt. He was good on administrative roles, but lacked formation, experience and skills to be a trader.

Barings also violated BoE capital controls, by sending more money than the allowed to foreign countries. But it was Barings, an elite bank, old and with Royal Family as customers, so the BoE look the other way.

Hi guys,
this is one of the few topics I have found on CFDs, since we mainly operate in Invest mode with trading212.
I have gained a fair amount of experience, but I do not consider myself a professional, with trading (CFD and otherwise) and with traditional investments (buy & hold) thanks also to the fact that I have a degree in finance and many of these complex concepts (margin, financial leverage , below, etc.) I had to study them for various exams.

What I am looking for is a group of people operating on T212 with CFDs. It would be nice to create a group on any platform like discord, so that we can compare, ask questions, solve the various problems that may exist with the CFD platform or with the same tools. However, since the forum is mainly addressed to the Invest section and it is difficult to find someone to talk to. In other words, create a mini community within that of T212 for those who work with CFDs given the complexity and high risk that characterize these instruments. I say this, because I believe that unity is strength, and together we could certainly bring improvements to our operations.
We certainly come from different countries (I Italy) but with English we would have no problems communicating, let me know what you think.
Obviously if this post, with this request, goes against the rules of the community I apologize to the administrators it is not my intention to create problems.
Peace and love!

Well there actually is a separate ā€œActive Tradingā€ section in the community, and I believe itā€™s purpose is mainly for CFDs.

Ah ok, I didnā€™t know it was mainly for the CFD that section. Then I head there for questions and clarifications, thanks!
