Is it possible that you will be offering the opportunity to trade gilts and corporate bonds on Trading 212?
Welcome. I’d say this is unlikely for the foreseeable.
I can’t remember if IBKR, T212’s intermediary offers them – if not, I can’t see it happening.
You can buy fixed-income ETFs and trusts but I understand the allure of holding them directly.
I don’t trade gilts or bonds so I’m not sure but I thought IBKR did offer them but I use IBKR just for options so haven’t really looked at their full range of products
Thanks for your help. I’ve now found that IBKR does trade bonds, so I’ll look into it further.
Freetrade supports these along with most major investing platforms - any plans? Either Gilts or Fed Tbills?
Would be cool to see this on the platform since IBKR do it now.
Hi everyone
No plans for now, but we’ll let you know if that changes.
Every half decent European bank does that since online trading first emerged like 20+ years ago.
Given the CGT raise in budget 2024, there would be higher demand for GILTS which is free of CGT. Would T212 reconsider offering GILT trading?
Nothing has changed since our last reply. We’ll update the thread if there’s any news about offering Gilts and Bonds.
Are there plans to make bonds available to T212 account holders?
The preferred option for me would be short term UK gov bonds available to Stock ISA account holders, but I’m open to other options
@5diamonds, I merged your topic with this one. I hope you don’t mind
Regarding your question, there aren’t any updates yet.
I wish to add my request for holding Gilts. I got half way through transferring a ÂŁ1/2M ISA until I found I could not transfer the Gilts I hold. Almost every platform allows this and I am hoping T212 might catch up so I can do the transfer. Thanks.
The main article in the Telegraph newspaper today is “Bond surge triggers retail investor frenzy”: " Turmoil in the bond market has prompted a surge of interest from everyday savers seeking to take advantage of higher returns.
Retail investors are rushing to buy gilts – as UK Government bonds are known – after a recent surge in their yields, which are the effective interest rate offered."
I, too, would like to buy gilts. Is there any way I can do so through Trading 212 please? How?
Thank you.
Sorry, not able to answer your direct question but if anyone interested in gilts is willing to use other providers then you may check the following providers (ranked only by single trade cost which I believe current at time of typing, not making any recommendations):
Interactive Investor - ÂŁ3.99
AJ Bell - ÂŁ5
Barclays - ÂŁ6 or ÂŁ6.99
Hargreaves Lansdown - ÂŁ11.99
I’m personally interested in gilts too but think the prices are both volatile and likely to drop further. Therefore I’m waiting to get better hold-to-maturity rates of return which IMO aren’t where I personally want them yet.
Edit: Just to add, the zero search results mean the current direct answer to your question is no.
And I would also consider opening T212 ISA should the answer change to yes.
Edit 2: Forgot ii
@m.h.n.porter, @SmartInvest, nothing has changed since my last reply here. If there is any news, I’ll share it in the thread.
