Verifying device without camera?

I have also noticed that I need to log in more often.

Not a solution but these could improve the situtation for you:

  1. Remember the password on your PC
  2. Log in with biometrics on your phone

At least you won’t have to enter the password manually until the situation hopefully improves.

Any help with this? @Bogi.H

Its every time i log in.

It never used to. The device was already set up as trusted.

Now when i log in it asks to set the device to trusted but when i click yes, I can’t set it as a trusted device because it does not have a camera.

I’m sorry for missing your post initially. I’ve recently shed some light on why this is required and the logic behind it. You can check my reply below :backhand_index_pointing_down:

I have the same issues, need to ā€œverifyā€ 10+ times a day on my pc desktop, same browser I’ve been using for over a year with t212, static ip. I’ve even had it asking me to verify while I was typing in the digits ie value for a stop loss in the middle of a trade so therefore throwing me out at the most inconvenient time.

Talking with their tech support chat got me nowhere, they keep saying it’s ā€œmost likelyā€ your IP.

Several months ago I was travelling throughout South America, nearly a different IP every other day, I verified maybe once or twice a week, back in the UK on a fixed internet connection I now have to verify 10 times a day, my inbox is full of t212 verification emails.

They changed something, they broke something, they won’t admit it.

It’s not only during the login that it asks for a video verification, it even asks for this simply when trying to view my Trading 212 Card info. Or when trying to withdraw money. This makes it impossible to fully use Trading 212 without a camera.

I understand that security is important, but having video verification as the only way to make a device trusted is just stupid. Some devices (e.g. desktops) simply don’t have cameras. There are also other ways to have users confirm that they are who they say they are. For example, many platforms send an email asking users if they are sure they want to trust the device. Or Steam allows the user to make a device trusted by verifying through a push notification from the mobile app.

And even if a camera is required for a ā€œtrustedā€ login, it should still be possible to use 2FA as verification for viewing card info and withdrawing money.

I don’t think anyone misunderstands the login flow, just the logic behind it.

I made a complaint about it, and got a response that desktops are more insecure because they can be shared, but it doesn’t make sense in some circumstances.

I live alone. I am the only one with access to my desktop computer. My desktop is the most secure computer I own.

My laptop has a camera, so I can do the ā€˜trusted’ login flow on that device. But my laptop I carry with me when I’m outside. If that gets stolen, my T212 account is available to anyone that shoulder surfed my password.

The same with my mobile phone. According to the BBC, phone theft is sharply rising year on year. There’s biometric support, but if you don’t trust that, it again is secured by a PIN, which someone can shoulder surf.

It makes no sense to me that the most secure device I own takes so many steps to login, and the least secure ones (which are much more venerable to theft) are secured with just a PIN or a desktop password.

This cumbersome friction is the main reason I have not seen my statements since they’ve become viewable only via the phone app. This is not the intended consequence, surely?

I’d liek to add that i am forced to re-login to my desktop session even whilse actively browsing stocks or using charts. i go to make a bid on CFD for example and it forces me to login again with no warning that i had been logged out / session had expired.
This is INFURIATING!
Please T212 fix this - allow us to set a timeout in a browser session

Came here to say the same. ā€œJust log in again every 6 hours forever when the site randomly logs you out in the middle of doing somethingā€ is not a solution. If you’re going to auto log out ā€œuntrustedā€ devices every few minutes, you need to have a working method of setting them as trusted.

So I actually got my android phone to work as a camera when connect to my PC.

Guess what, I verify using my face, then later on it asks to verify again with documents, then the next time I open my browser it wants to verify, then that fails, then I do it again and again and again, I actually hate this platform now and can hardly use it. Support is useless, they just say sorry we need to do it, ok, but then make it work.

Hope they stop this - email each time, need to have the phone handy if I want to use T212 on my PC….shame as apart from this T212 is good.

I understand the frustration regarding the new login flow, but I believe there is another way to look at this security requirement. If we are using a computer for banking and trading, we are already operating under the assumption that the device is secure and free from compromise. If we trust the machine enough to input our financial credentials and manage our capital, using a camera for verification shouldn’t be a major privacy concern; if a device is compromised enough for a camera to be a risk, the trading session itself would already be in danger.

Furthermore, considering that trading involves managing financial assets, purchasing a basic USB webcam is a relatively small expense that ensures our accounts remain secure. Since this visual verification is only required occasionally to establish the ā€˜trusted’ status, it seems like a reasonable compromise to ensure that the person logging in is genuinely the account holder.

I had to re-trust a device that was already trusted, it’s absolutely ridiculous! Completely agree with what @phans says above. My laptop stays at home and yet my phone which is higher risk because I take it everywhere isn’t affected by this inconvenience.

logging in is a total pain and it doesnt add anything for security it just adds inconvenience. I disagree with @gtafuro because all my financial services I run from my home computer, dont need anything more than the 2FA (in most cases).

If you need a photo, why cant I then use my phone? but no that didnt work, It went straight in with no issues…

Security I understand, but implementation is really bad… Please get this sorted… (even a log in on your phone to authorise the desktop, or use your app on the phone to take picture)

I too had to re-trust a laptop yesterday but I seemed to be able to log into T212 today without issue.
I find that if I change the device then the login screen appears. However, it is not a major issue for me because I use a password manager across all my devices and the username and password appear automatically. So it is just a case of clicking OK.
So have a strong password but use a password manager is my advice.

Looks like the stupid video on desktop has gone for now.

They now just need to sort out the automatic logout problem. At least give a message saying due to inactivity you will be logged out in 10seconds with a change for the user to keep it active. Or a timer on the window so you can see where you are.. but I have gone to view something or trade and have to log in again..

Glad someone else made a post, wondered if I was having account issues at first.

I agree with others mentioning that desktops are plenty secure and should have a way of becoming a trusted device despite no webcam. Other services get around this issue by having QR codes to scan and complete verification on your phone so perhaps T212 can implement similar?

On the topic, passkey support would be nice too.

I have the opposite issue. I only have one device I access my portfolio on and it has to be trusted. I’ve requested it be untrusted because I think its a security issue, but it can’t be done apparently. I’ve never had option for a verification code on app seng to mobile phone. How do you get that?

My daughter simply cannot log in because the PC has no camera. She has done video verification on her phone. Makes no difference cannot log in with the PC.

Now for the last 2 days, every time I look at my account on my PC (which doesn’t have a camera) I have to use the authentication app on my phone. The PC then tells me to use a device with a camera. NO. I have done video authentication. I want a secure PC without a camera and with the minimum number of apps….

A few weeks ago I decided to borrow a USB webcam to use on my desktop PC for verification and when given the option I chose to trust this device. For a couple of weeks I could login with just my username and password and wasn’t prompted to verify, but today when I tried to log in I was asked to enter my 2FA code and then got asked to verify with a camera again! What is going on??? I’m on the same PC, same network, same web browser, haven’t changed anything and it’s like T212 has forgotted I already set this device to be trusted. Seriously T212, your implementation is broken and needs rethinking.
