What would it take to be able to introduce access to emerging and non-western markets? There’s so much potential (and risk, of course) going completely missed.
T212 don’t like risk, you’ll be lucky if you can buy a. few shares of each stock, if these markets were to come available, due to the their quantity restrictions. It’s actually pushing me away from their services
Good question. I’d suggest developing world countries would need to open up their markets first.
India, for example, is notoriously difficult to invest in. If brokers could offer easier access, I’m sure they would but there’s all sorts of barriers.
I don’t think it’s that much of an issue though. For instance, you can still buy the likes of TSM, CPNG, SE, MELI, NU and PDD on 212. Plus you’ll find relatively liquid OTC listings for BYD, Meituan etc.
Getting access to Japan would be a good step forward, it’s offered on IBKR so you would think at some point T212 would be able to allow access to it on their platform.
…on this platform.
I agree - it’s something I mull over time from time, but apart from doing my own research, it’s difficult to find low cost options for low value trades in emerging markets.
If I were to predict, I think India going to become a powerhouse in the future and will likely drag Korea with it. The question is how to invest. The best we have here is ETFs or specialist investment trusts.
Here’s an example - but have we missed the boat?
Why are you expecting South Korea to benefit from India’s growth?
Diversification away from China and the US.
It’s worth mentioning investment trusts in this space, including some country specific ones, as a way to access emerging markets, eg PHI. Some include private companies too. I’d much rather own a NAVF than a Japan tracker.
Part of me regrets selling AIE which did incredibly well, outperforming all the India ETFs by a long way. Some of the Vietnamese trusts have tempted me over the years too but I never really pulled the trigger.
One of these days, I’ll get around to researching what ADRs and OTC listings are available for India stocks as a replacement for AIE. I’m looking for something more growthy rather banks or industrials. I’m all ears, if anyone has any ideas!
How about Japanese Market with Yen as multicurrency account?
I think trading 212 can add inderdeed more tools for the risk full investors and Traders .
