Account Closure

Hey everyone,

I just got an email from Trading 212 saying they’re closing my UK account because I haven’t used it in a while, with only a one-month notice, forcing me to switch to their German entity, FXFlat Bank GmbH. What the hell is this nonsense? They didn’t even ask me if I wanted this they’re just deactivating my account on October 1, 2025, without my consent. I have over €100,000 sitting in that account, and treating a long-term customer like this is absolute bullshit!

They’re trying to sell me on this new German account with stuff like 2% cashback, higher interest, and deposit protection up to €100K, but why force me to close my account instead of giving me a choice? This is completely unprofessional and shady business behavior. If this is how they handle loyal customers with significant funds, I’m done with them. I’ll be looking for a new broker that actually respects its users.

Has anyone else in Germany gotten this notice? What’s the deal with this crap? And if you’re switching, which brokers are you considering? I’m looking for something with solid deposit protection, easy SEPA transfers, and proper German tax handling. Suggestions welcome!

Thanks!

I just received an email that my UK Account will be deactivated and that the German Option is available. But it doesn’t sound like they will migrate it automatically…. It states: “

…. Your account will be automatically deactivated on 01.10.2025. ….

| Ready to make the switch?

To get started with your new German account, you’ll first need to close your current UK account. It only takes a minute:
  1. Go to the Menu → Settings

  2. Tap My account → Account details

  3. Select Close account and confirm

It is not explained how the process works or if the system will ask me to transfer to a “German” Trading 212 Account.

What is this?

Hi, I’ve just received an email that my account is being forcefully closed, investments will be sold and I need to make a new account under the German entity as I made my account back in 2020. Is there no direct migration as it doesn’t seem fair to give us only a months notice our accounts will be closed?

Hey @InvestingDragon , I’ve just had the same email and am currently talking to customer service who seem clueless on the situation. They are saying we can’t transfer our investments to the new entity so they will just sell them all automatically on Oct 1st which is absolutely not okay. I’m also a long-term customer with a significant amount invested and I can’t believe they would treat long term customers like this.

I wonder if there is a way to automatically send to another broker without having to sell?

Hey @InvestingDragon and @Aliolive2 I have got the same email an hour back. I am a customer since 2020, and I was not expecting this at all. I don’t wish to sell my portfolio. What can be done in this situation?

Hey I got a similar email, and wondering what needs to be done now. I hope it is a mistake from their end. Even if it is not, then they should give some alternatives.

Same message here. I also feel this is such a strange behaviour especially as they were announcing that they search for a way to transfer accounts to the new entity automatically without manual effort. Trading 212 has an option to use their transfer service but then you would have to open a separate account first.

In regards to transfering it to another broker.. Most stocks can be transfered no problem, but some ETFs are not supported / traded by all brokers, therefore I doubt that you can transfer them without liquidation.

Hey, everyone :waving_hand:

Jumping in to clarify what happened - some of our German clients mistakenly received an account termination notice. This was a technical error.

The email was only meant for a small group of inactive accounts, but unfortunately, some active accounts were incorrectly included in the list as well.

If you have an active account, you don’t need to worry. Your account is secure, your funds and investments are safe, and your account will not be closed.

We’ve already fixed the error, and we’re sending follow-up emails to all affected clients.

Sorry for the confusion, and thank you for flagging it so quickly.

Thanks for updating us so quickly, that’s such a relief! Will be happy to transfer over to the German entity when it’s ready!

Thanks for updating here. Waiting for the follow up email. Thank you.

Thanks for the clarification. I’m really relieved to know the account closure notice was just a technical error! I was seriously pissed off about the 30-day notice, as it’s way too short for something this serious. In the future, please give longer notice periods, at least three months, to avoid freaking people out.

Sorry for my heated tone earlier, I was just stressed. Appreciate the update, and I’m waiting for the follow-up email to confirm.

Just got the follow-up email from Trading 212 – thanks for the quick handling!
