Cineworld Long Term or Short?

The going out cinema experience is decent now and again obviously and I love it. But the future is staying in and streaming ā€œnetflix and chillingā€. As a race we’re genuinely lazy now.

Although saying that I do have a few shares in Cineworld, hoping to see it thrive again. There’s not much money invested in it so it’s low risk low reward for me. Hope it recovers well.

If it is any comfort. The news just mentioned that the Cinema is the 3rd most missed activity in the UK!!!

Let us hope it means better profits for CineWorld.

That’s interesting, would like to read about that if there’s an article. What was 1st and 2nd?

I learnt a valuable lesson here, I tried to swing it when it hit 70p, and then kept averaging down before I realised i’d gone messed up, im at around an average of 64p.

I’m happy to hold it, although that pump and dump last week tested my patience.

Yeah I’m personally not buying any of this ā€˜dying breed’ speculation - at least not yet. Cinephiles are a MASSIVE demographic and they want the big screen experience.

Maybe a dozen generations down the line will only ever know home streaming and think ā€˜why would I pay Ā£20 for a ticket to see what I can see at home for next to nothing?’ but that midset isn’t prevalent yet.

Restaurants/Pubs and Holidays surely…?

Yep can understand that. I’m all for a few beers, and also desperate for a holiday, but for me during the height of lockdown my number 1 missed activity was the gym!

Good spot Venetia I will look to invest post interim.

Have to say I’m very glad it’s having a wee surge now as those interim results are going to bring some pain I’m sure.

I’m considering for the first time ever, shorting. I might enter on 23rd then buy back with my winnings shares in cineworld .

How can this increase after earnings.

What you think @Joey_Fantana

It’s all in the above convo, mate. Sentiment will bring it back in my eyes. It’s already happening now but the market is fickle and those earnings will knock it back. Give it another couple of weeks for the overreaction to die off and it’ll be slowly making ground again. Films are on their way again. More and more cinemas opening their doors each week.

Only thing that might prompt me to either take gains or walk completely is if a winter second wave/lockdown occurs.

Might be a naive opinion but I don’t see much difference between the risk of Cineworld vs the risk of any flight or cruise line stock. The expectation is they will be back. The risk is that they go under before they get there.

I went in to Cineworld early in the crash and have a 5.5k share @ 47p average
I’ve gained a 30% increase and will hold long.

Cinema is part of movie history and its magic and I can’t see it going away.

The likes of Netflix do not scare me

We have food at home but still go out to eat

Its the experience that makes the difference

Well said. I’m 47p average also. 1k shares. It’ll be a long road but I can’t see it not getting there.

ā€œWe have food at home but still go out to eatā€ !

So simple yet so iconic I love it.

I like what Cineworld are doing at the moment and showing old classics. I’m still a bit wary of spending that sort of time in public but when everything is back to normal I hope they will find some time to keep classics running. Always loved this idea.

Agreed. They don’t do this enough already.

Was just looking and towards end of Feb we were looking at about 180 a share. Bearing that in mind are people still averaging in now at 60? Or we waiting for drops?

Personally 1k shares is enough for me, that was about 5 rounds of averaging down from 57p-ish.

I wouldn’t bother averaging down just now - can’t say how you won’t get a great drop next month on earnings.

I bought 20 shares at 41p each as I was still new to the idea and was scared of the risk.

Glad to see it near 60p and hoping it can grow enough to make 100% returns on it so I can sell half of it.
