Closing Expert Market positions

Hi

I need to close an Expert Market position. I’m way down but still have £74 in this old stock. I realise I’ve lost most of the money I’ve invested in this particular stock - it happens. But how do I get back this £74 I have left? Selling has no avail. Seems nobody wants HCMC anymore :face_holding_back_tears:.

Thank you for any help. The AI chatbot was no help.

Wow, this thing has been barcoding for 3 years. Good luck!

BTW what do you mean by “Expert Market position”?

AI (Claude) told me the following,..

"HCMC became a meme stock in 2021 — people bought it hoping it would win a lawsuit against Philip Morris. The lawsuit failed and the stock essentially collapsed.

The selling problem is likely because:
The share price may be a fraction of a penny — too small to execute a trade
The platform may have suspended trading on it
Liquidity is essentially zero — nobody is buying.

Contact the platform’s customer support directly and ask specifically how to close an illiquid position.

The brutal honest truth:
That £74.81 remaining value may essentially be inaccessible. You likely can’t sell it because there are literally no buyers.
Your options:
Contact Trading 212 support and ask specifically about closing an Expert Market position
Accept it may be a write-off and report the full ÂŁ881 capital loss to HMRC
Hold and hope something changes — but realistically unlikely
The silver lining:
That ÂŁ881 capital loss is genuinely useful for tax purposes against future gains"

I don’t trade OTC, so I hadn’t come across the term “expert market”. You learn something new every day…

To answer your question, you probably have to accept total loss on this position. As Claude said, if there are no buyers, you can’t sell, which means you’re not getting that remaining money back. My recommendation would be to place a market order (not a limit order) and just hope for the best, but prepare to accept total loss. Sorry :frowning:
