In-specie transfer 👨‍🔬

What is the status for transferring out to IBKR ?
Thanks.

IBKR doesn’t have ISA transfers either.

It’s also an additional feature that was never promised. We all have the ability to transfer cash out in an ISA or crystallise and transfer cash in a GIA. The latter might get a lot more painful with the new UK tax rules, but we all knew something was coming to pay for covid handouts, we just didn’t know what.

What we need really is a common standard for financial service providers, a bit like what open banking did. We should be pushing for that to try and raise the minimum level of services, without pricing new competitors out from the market.

In my utopia, it wouldn’t take 3 weeks for cash or 6 weeks to transfer stocks. Similarly I wouldn’t need to worry about recording my capital gains/losses on my annual tax returns. All my banks, brokers, would link up to a central tax database and do all that for me.

We’re a long way from that however.

@Tony.V please provide us with the status for transferring out shares to IBKR

taps the sign

But then again they are focusing on in species transfer for ISA first rather than GIA or invest. And the majority of people have their shares in an ISA naturally and the minority like my have maxed out all ISA allowances and have most money tied in the Invest account.

So they would have gone after invest transfer first if they really wanted to delay the whole thing and reduce number of transfers outbound

I’d really like this feature of In species transfers for outbound Invest accounts but appreciate ISA is first priority which is still good overall.

Considering this is an international broker - I’d say you’re making a poor judgement call here.

@mubix77 incase you missed the post above…

With the end of 2022 approaching fast, I imagine the technical development and business plans for 2023 are getting into shape. It would be good to get some feedback by the end of the year about a rough timeline for this feature implementation. Thanks for the communication with the community.

Don’t you think, if there was any news, that we’d know by now?
Writing every 2 days won’t make it happen earlier.

I know but some of us are desperate

As the custodian is IBKR and IBKR hasn’t got in specie transfers set up for their own in house service, 212 will be longer.

I suspect the best thing to watch is when IBKR UK set up in specie. Once they have been going without a hitch for a few months then hopefully 212 will soon follow.

As 212 piggybacks off IBKR as it uses them as their custodian, their own customers go first.

This is in April and now we are in December. I understand we need a robust functionality. But the reasons of why this is getting so long should be clear. Someone has mentioned IKBR, is this true?

Hi, welcome to the community!!

I believe this thread is well documented already; a quick read will let you know that, as T212 uses IBKR, their in-specie transfers are tied to IBKR’s.

As some have pointed out, IBKR does support in-specie, but not on ISA accounts. And they have been delayed at least 2 quarters on those already.

T212 had been investigating ISA transfers only initially, so the whole project has been frozen.

There is no more news on this, if there were, you would already know it.
When there will be news about it, you will be promptly informed.

@Team212 How about closing this topic until there are further developments on the matter?

This might just lead to new threads being created asking similar questions, I think it is best to keep this thread one open so at least most queries on the topic end up in the same thread :slightly_smiling_face:.

Close the new threads and ban the folk until they submit to the fact that using search is the answer.

This is not correct, IBKR now allow in-specie ISA transfers from certain brokers including Interactive Investor (See options 2 and 3 below).
II-IBKR

IWeb transfers also now supported on IBKR as of this week hopefully T212 soon!

Good stuff. Hopefully see similar here soon but taking a sensible view it might be worth waiting for IB to iron out any kinks first rather than rolling out something not entirely fit for purpose.
