Investing aged 50

Hello all,

Just asking for some advice.
I’m aged 50. Is this too old to invest? I’m not looking to access any invested money for 10 plus years.
I’m already paying into a works pension. I’ve got an emergency fund built up. Cash ISA gets maxed out each year

Currently looking at an Invesco s&p 500.
I’d like to diversity a bit so is it worthwhile adding and Invesco FTSE all world? Or would a s&p be enough?

Thanks for any help

It’s about the time most people start properly investing. You have 17 years at least of compounding ahead. So crack on.

Depending on how much cash you have now it might be advisable to stop with the Cash ISA and focus on stocks and pension for a while. They’re going to be your productive assets up to and including retirement.

its definitely worth starting, i didnt start properly until 54, kids and mortgage ate up all my monies, grandkids are having a good go now. still time to make good returns as long as you stay away from dodgy investments

Thanks both :+1: much appreciated
I’ll start with a FTSE All world as I don’t just want to invest solely in the US.
I won’t be touching this for 10 years plus.
I’ll be adding £500 per month.

Company pension will be getting £1000 per month

Vanguard has fees of 0.22%
Invesco fees are 0.15%
Are Invesco a decent company?

ACWI is cheaper than both now at 0.12% - it’s tracking a slightly different global index but the outcome is comparable to other all world indexes. It’s ran by State Street who are the third largest fund provider around at the moment. Worth adding to your list for comparison.

Would through a pension for some tax relief be a consideration?

Thank you. Another option I can look into

I pay into a works pension (£1,000 in total per month with employer contributions).
I thought maybe investing through Trading 212 might have better returns and spread the risk a bit?
