The current dashboard options don’t provide a level of granularity to show price changes in the current market day’s trading. The “1D” option and Watchlists only resolve down to last 24hrs trading hours. It would be useful to have an option for reporting price changes that zeroes on the opening bell so this figure clearly reports movements that day.
As it stands, the market opens downwards on a Monday morning after an upbeat Friday afternoon. Stocks drop on Monday opening but T212 is still showing green and positive price movements relative to the early trading on Friday.
The 1D option (also all of them but it is most confusing on 1D) moves second by second throughout the day, it is a literal comparison with T-24h. It would be much more helpful for the date time reference point to be fixed e.g. “yesterday 08:00” (example only - ideally a user setting).
How my portfolio varies versus a continuously changing date time is not helpful and generates some strange variances on the daily comparison.
I always find Monday’s variance the most logical and useful because the reference point (my portfolio’s value over the entirety of Sunday) is 100% static.
What is my monthly return… oh wait, it changes minute by minute as the market ticks by (the variance minute by minute will reflect your portfolio’s intraday volatility exactly T-month ago.
