I think it would be helpful if the asset allocation (or another similar feature) took into account stocks that are included within ETFs and combined them to give the total allocation for a particular stock. I say this because some people may be investing in 1 or more ETFs where there is some overlap i.e. a stock exists in multiple ETFs at different weightings. They might also own the stock individually outside of an ETF.
To give a very simple example to demonstrate this point, lets say my portfolio is structured like this:
50% Vanguard FTSE All World (VWRP)
25% iShares S&P 500 Information Technology Sector (IITU)
25% Microsoft (MSFT) - Individual Stock
Microsoft currently makes up around 3.6% of VWRP and 19.7% of IITU.
I believe, if my maths is correct, that would put my total allocation of MSFT at 31.725%
VWRP = 50 x 3.6/100 = 1.8%
IITU = 25 x 19.7/100 = 4.925%
MSFT = 25 x 100/100 = 25%
Total = 1.8 + 4.925 + 25 = 31.725%
I appreciate that in order for this to be feasible, T212 needs to know the asset allocation of each ETF on the platform. From what I understand we havenβt got to that point yet but is the end goal.
