Getting started

Hi guys. I’ve just recently started my share trading journey with virtual practice money on this platform. Any tips or advice is greatly welcomed and appreciated. I hope to build some good friendships with other users and I hope that I will be able to offer some advice to beginners myself later on when I have some advice and knowledge of my own to share with everyone. We’re all in this together so I hope we can work together to achieve some good profits and make a few quid together. All the best guys.

  1. I’m sure you’re following (or will follow) content on youtube. Make sure to assess who’s actually good and knows what they’re talking about. I’ve had to go through a few channels that were full of BS but I finally found the 2-3 channels I trust
  2. Make sure to note what type of trading each channel is doing. Long term investment vs swing trades vs day trading: these work differently and good advice for one could be bad for another
  3. ChatGPT has been brilliant for me. I’d often ask what a professional trader would do, and how they’d assess different stocks… etc. There are plenty of concepts I learnt from it
  4. If you’re trading in an single-currency account (like a UK ISA) beware of the FX fees as they can quickly add up. T212 may show your position is green, but it doesn’t account for the FX fees you paid buying in, and will pay when selling. Generally speaking, you need to be ~0.3% up to break even with the FX fees on T212 (e.g. £3 per £1000 invested).

Aside from that, you’ll find everything online, really… the above is just what I realised over time that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone talk about

And the usual: do your own research, don’t trust anyone promising quick riches… etc. you know the deal.

Good luck

Thanks for your input there bro. I really do appreciate you taking the time to give me some advice and help. All the best mate.

Re-reading what I wrote, my point 4 had some typos that maybe have been confusing. I just edited it and added bit more detail.
