I have a list of suggestions about pies. I realise that the current system of pies might be perfect for some people but it is just a source of frustration for me. I totally recognise that I might be in a minority perhaps a minority of one so I’d welcome other peoples views.
At the moment pies are great if you just want to regularly invest in the same stock and forget it. That isn’t me.
Some of my suggestions may involve fairly major change but I think that would be enormously beneficial but other changes are much more minor in terms of the UI but in my opinion would make pies much more powerful and useful.
I would like to view a pie as an investment fund. If I put £X into the pie I want to be able to buy and sell stock within that fund but keep the money in it. Pies just don’t work for me at the moment.
List of suggestions:
-
I want to be able to buy or sell a stock within a pie. If I hold x shares of nvidia in my tech pie I want to be able to sell some of them within the pie and the money stay in the pie’s cash balance. I don’t want to have to export, sell… and basically withdraw the investment from the pie. what happens in the pie stays in the pie.
-
when I look at my overall portfolio and click on a company I currently just see the total holding of that stock (across all pies and my portfolio). I would like to be able to see a) which pies hold that stock and b) ideally the holding in each pie/portfolio
-
from my main portfolio I want to be able to sell. If I own a stock but it is all in a pie I only see a BUY button and no SELL button. from my portfolio list I want to be able to SELL even if the stock is in pie. The sell could default to portfolio first but i should be able to select where I am selling from and if i am selling from a pie whether to leave the proceeds in the pie or withdraw the cash from the pie.
-
from my portfolio list or a search result i would like to be able to BUY direct into a pie (ie add into the pie) and either use my main spending pot or the free cash in the pie.
-
sell limit orders or stop loss orders would seem fairly straightforward in pies - sell and cash goes into pie cash reserve. it would be great to have pie limit buy orders but I realise that might contemplate things a bit so personally I wouldn’t care if buy limit orders always use the main spending pot to keep it simple but it would be nice to be able to set where the shares go (main portfolio or a specific pie that already includes that stock). Thus I could set a limit buy for nvidia to use cash from my main pot but any shares bought go straight into my tech pie where nvidia is already included.
Basically I’d like much more flexibility to buy and sell shares within a pie without having to export or continuously edit the pie.
Longer term I think it would be great to have much better reporting and statistics for pies - how the individual components of the pie performed relative to each other, how the pie performed, how the actual pie (with manual buys and sells or with regular investments) performed compared to just the defined % allocations…
