Backtesting simply Put is where you check the performance of a stock for the past years, this could be up to 5 , 10 years, taking into account other factors, it does not guarantee that a stock will perform the same way it did in the past , but in economics we say all things being equal the stock my follow the same trend. This Is better than shooting blind. Combine this data with additional research to help you make better decision about a particular stock. Hope this helps.
