Apologies for this newbie question but I can’t find the answer I’m looking for.
I have 12 individual stocks and some of them pay dividends. I would like to automatically reinvest the dividends into the same stock and from what I’m reading - this can only be done if the stock is in a pie.
My questions are:
do I need to set up a separate pie for ‘each’ dividend stock and hold it at 100%.
or can I convert my 12 individual stocks into 1 pie and set the auto invest for the dividend stocks here? - is so, is there a way to do this easily?
You need to create an empty pie then import your holdings into it. The trick is how to create the empty pie.
When you create the pie and it insists on searching for and adding investments, do it when an exchange is closed and add a single share holding. This will create a pending order which you can then cancel leaving an empty pie.
… or just add one of the 12 stocks to be that one initial stock.
Note that you’re forced to add at least one stock or ETF to the pie when you create it, but you’re not forced to add any money. So as clever as it is, there’s no need for an initial out-of-hours order.
