The reason for its climb is Wall Street jumping on board
I’m just talking about the general view LOL. however In the UK I have looked at plenty of utility suppliers and they will only accept payment in british currency, same for when I pay my council tax, water bill, phone bill et cetera. there are still ways to effectively pay them using crypto debit cards, but it’s not something they actively promote as an alternative to normal payments, since most people here still have no connection to crypto’s at all. stablecoin or otherwise.
cash won’t die for a long time yet, neither will normal banking even if the rates go negative for a while.
but at least the cash savvy will have an alternative option they can go to.
They don’t… the ideia is exactly to be transparent, if they accept Visa/MasterCard/Amex… you can pay with a crypto card and they will receive in fiat (while they want to).

I’m still fond of cash
best way to earn on a side job if you collect in small sum on an irregular basis. then just use that cash to do your shopping and don’t worry about getting taxed on it again
I also like to frequent a few places that to this day don’t accept debit/credit cards
well… I live in Germany, cards are basically SciFi here ![]()
I think I’ve made it through 2020 without using cash at all.
To be honest I only have used my card on a pay at pump.
Everything is Google Pay tapping with my phone or online these days.
Especially with lockdown and Covid I would say 95% online if I can help it. Basically food deliveries and Amazon and we’re sorted.
I do favour paying with my phone’s NFC a lot, had to make 3 bike trips to a shop once until I remembered to bring the wallet and found out that one of the items I wanted got sold out the day before
I’m certain the government is making it so that cash is dead.
Look at the new UK banknotes - what an absolute JOKE. It’s like stuffing folded up crisp packets into your wallet.
If money was 100% digital, they can collect taxes easier, they can track and trace you easier, it reduces the costs to produce and destroy cash, and if you mess with the gov - they can come in and take the lot in one transfer.
I personally like the new notes. still think they are a poor imitation of Canadian currency however
You mad man.

I’d rather monopoly money than that plasticy monstrosity.
