Portfolio transfers

Iā€™m definitely keen on IBKR transfers. I have some things Iā€™d like to move either way to tidy up my accounts.

@mubix77 & @TInvest , Iā€™m afraid not much has changed since @Momchil.Gā€™s update in May:

Thats not an issue you can always double hop if you wanted to but please keep the deadline this time

ā€˜Double hoppingā€™ isnā€™t ideal if it results in additional fees or time delays.

Thanks for the update. Is it a technical issue, or more of a commercial decision?

On the face of it, it is a strange one not to have. Most wouldā€™ve assumed it would be the easiest to facilitate.

I understand that and agree but considering the fact that half the users still donā€™t have access to the feature i donā€™t think double hoping and some fees would be an issue for someone who really wants to transfer

Think this might be updated to next year

Can we please add more German brokers to the supported list? Thereā€™s currently only Trade Republic Bank but I would love to transfer in my portfolios from:

  1. Scalable Capital
  2. Traders Place
  3. Smartbroker+
  4. Finanzen Net Zero

Funny thing is they are all under Baader Bank, so if you support one, others come for free basically.

Also, I donā€™t have access to the Portfolio Transfers feature yet, although Iā€™m a user since beginning of 2020 (I thought Iā€™ll be part of the 50% but I guess not), are definitely on track for September 30 as launch for all?

I can hardly wait to transfer in.

Thatā€™s the idea nowā€¦ to move to TR and then move to T212 from there.

Thanks!

Wanted to move some shares from German broker Equatex to my wifeā€™s account to minimise CGT only to find out that T212 donā€™t accept from Equatex and transfer between accounts with different names :(.
Had to open 2 accounts with HL (for myself and my wife) and doing transfer in 3 hops: Equatex ā†’ my HL (20days) ā†’ my wifeā€™s HL (3 days) and now waiting for T212 to enable transfer option on my wifeā€™s account
What a painā€¦ on a positive side, no fees along the way
For others, HL looks a good stepping stone

Does HL allow German residents to open an account?

Hello, is in-specie transfer completely free if the other broker also donā€™t charge any fee ? Arenā€™t exchanges asking for fees too ? E.g. Degiro is now charging 20ā‚¬ ā€œinternalā€ fee per outgoing position but it seems that even if it was free there is also ā€œexternalā€ fee (allegedly to the exchange where the stock has been bought) and this one is pretty expensive (depending on specific exchange).

ā€œExchange feesā€ are only when there are transactions (buy and/or sell).

No, according to HL you have to be UK resident

My German shares were transferred from Equate to HL with 0 fees and according to papers these came from flatexDerigo.
Not sure if this is because these are shares allocated as part of employer scheme.

So you and your wife moved to UK basically?

Well Degiro according to their documentation charges ā€œā‚¬20 + external exchange fees per positionā€ and that is quite expensive depending on exchange:

So my question was essentially whether these ā€œexchange feesā€ are there always regardless of broker fees or whether it is something made up by Degiro.

We are UK residents, but I work for a company with German HQ and share incentive scheme is managed by a German company, so whatever company shares I buy are held in Germany

These looks like Derigo fees. Not sure if ā€œexchange feesā€ are fees charged by an exchange for regitrar change and passed by Derigo to customer
In my particular case I didnā€™t pay any fees to transfer from Equate to HL (both accounts in the same name) and within HL (to my wife). Once transfer is available in T212, will confirm if either side will ask for any fees.
Shares in question are traded at XETRA
