Short Selling Query

Hi Folks

Just getting into the swing of things on the practice account and have a question about going short.

Say I’m looking at AMD with a Buy @ $54.99 and Sell @ 54.88.

I choose to sell. However, I hit $54.88 but am still in the minus without knowing when I’ll actually start making profit.

This happens all the time, and I can’t find any rationale as to why this is the case. It seems a bit of a guess, unless I’ve missed something here.

Appreciate any clarification

Thanks

You can only go short using CFDs. When you sell, you sell for the sell price. Closing your position is done with the opposite. A buy. So when the price goes down and the buy price is less than your sell price when opening the position, then you are in profit.
