Currently adjusting two decimal precision percentage values to exactly add up to 100% is a tedious task. Also each and every percentage has to be adjusted after adding/removing a share to/from the pie.
A better method of distribution is the good old “weightings”. Arbitrary number that are only relevant to each other.
An example: This is my Non-US Tech Pie, and I only fill the W column here and the percentage within the pie is calculated from weightings.
Non-US Tech | 19.57% | 9.10% | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
ISA | 27 | |||
ALL | ||||
W | % | ISA | ALL | |
MercadoLibre, Inc. | 18 | 25.71% | 5.03% | 2.34% |
Adyen N.V. | 16 | 22.86% | 4.47% | 2.08% |
Alibaba Group Holding Limited | 14 | 20.00% | 3.91% | 1.82% |
Prosus NV | 14 | 20.00% | 3.91% | 1.82% |
Yandex N.V. | 8 | 11.43% | 2.24% | 1.04% |
Now if I want to add Fabasoft to this pie (when its added on T212) and lets say I want it to be weighted between Prosus and Yandex I can simply enter a value like 10 in the “W” column
Non-US Tech | 19.57% | 9.10% | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
ISA | 27 | |||
ALL | ||||
W | % | ISA | ALL | |
MercadoLibre, Inc. | 18 | 22.50% | 4.40% | 2.05% |
Adyen N.V. | 16 | 20.00% | 3.91% | 1.82% |
Alibaba Group Holding Limited | 14 | 17.50% | 3.42% | 1.59% |
Prosus NV | 14 | 17.50% | 3.42% | 1.59% |
Fabasoft AG | 10 | 12.50% | 2.45% | 1.14% |
Yandex N.V. | 8 | 10.00% | 1.96% | 0.91% |
Then may be I’ve gone insane and want to remove Mercado Libre from the pie, I can just remove it without thinking about percentages.
Non-US Tech | 19.57% | 9.10% | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
ISA | 27 | |||
ALL | ||||
W | % | ISA | ALL | |
Adyen N.V. | 16 | 25.81% | 5.05% | 2.35% |
Alibaba Group Holding Limited | 14 | 22.58% | 4.42% | 2.05% |
Prosus NV | 14 | 22.58% | 4.42% | 2.05% |
Fabasoft AG | 10 | 16.13% | 3.16% | 1.47% |
Yandex N.V. | 8 | 12.90% | 2.52% | 1.17% |
edit: as you can see on every alteration all percentages change, but the relative distribution of shares are same without effort.
