DeepSeek V3 - any thoughts?

Many news and articles on DeepSeek v.3 out there, some pointed out that META is getting nervous (e.g. here). What impact is all this likely to have is still a big uncertainty.

The sentiment will swing like crazy for weeks, probably causing some big tech stocks to tank, at least temporarily, and creating some buying opportunities for long term and momentum investors. Well, this is what I hope with cash at hand :innocent:

Any thoughts?

“Chinese AI company DeepSeek says its DeepSeek R1 model is as good, or better than OpenAI’s new o1 says CEO: powered by 50,000 NVIDIA H100 AI GPUs.”

Looks like a great news for Nvidia…

Until you see someone start an investigation on Nvidia as to how these 50,000 NVIDIA H100 AI GPUs reached China :upside_down_face:

Of all the tech stocks I own or are on my watchlist, the semi have been hit the hardest. I’ve gladly added hundreds shares to my FWRG position, and a few shares to my ASML position

There’s a possibility that this just the beginning, so I’ve stop splashing cash and now I’ll wait and see what happens next.

If they say they built their platform on 2,000+ Nvidia chips, this news has screwed the very chip maker!

Its just the timings that amazes me, one news to wipe out almost a $1T from the market overnight in a few hours. If this is not war, I wonder what is it!

Nvidia Stock May Fall As DeepSeek’s ‘Amazing’ AI Model Disrupts OpenAI.

it seems there are some confusing news updates!
Check these statements from the article above

DeepSeek benefited when Washington banned Nvidia from exporting H100s — Nvidia’s most powerful chips — to China. That forced local AI companies to engineer around the scarcity of the limited computing power of less powerful local chips — Nvidia H800s, according to CNBC.

The H800 chips transfer data between chips at half the H100’s 600 gigabits per second rate and are generally less expensive, according to a Medium post by Nscale chief commercial officer Karl Havard. Liang’s team “already knew how to solve this problem,” noted the Financial Times.

Nvidia will have to wake up this morning with reasons why one should give away the cost advantage by use H100 AI GPUs over H800s

I will not be surprised if there is a missing hardware link here that we as the market are yet to be aware of.

Over to you Nvidia!! :microphone: :microphone: :microphone:

There is no confusion or it’ meant to be nvidia specific, it’s just about the absurd AI misallocation of capital and valuations of companies that tag along the “AI thing” … while the Chinese come up with something that took 5M to train.

Its all about margins. Like they did with solar panels, ev cars, cellphones.
