For those wondering what happened with GME, BBBY, AMC, BB, LGND

Seems like T212 is taking measures to reduce the volatility here

Only affecting ISA though

How can they do this?
I’m thinking the fractional shares might be causing them to lose money on trade numbers?

Quite capable of mitigating our own risks…

Trading212 is artificially lowering the demand for those stocks.

it’s not just T212, a lot of mayor brokers aren’t accepting buy orders. I will not put on a tin foil hat and say that T212 has a conflict of interest, it’s just not true it wouldn’t be logical. that it even is against their own interest as they make money from the securities lending on those GME shares, which at current rates is quite nice money so us buying and holding would be nice for them in that regard.

Another thing is that this does restrict buying volume from retail, but there has to be someone at the other side of the trade.
Edit: typos

Trading 212 only allowing selling seems to have it’s effect:

Can imagine that other brokers have similar things, would be interested to know what would happen if buying restrictions are lifted again.

Either way its market manipulation on an enormous scale and illegal in the highest order.

T212 and others should be punished without limit.

I think a mass boycott would sort this but for some reason not everyone is on board?

All of us sell and withdraw on the same day

If you ever buy a new car its usualy made after you ordered it.

A huge amount of business seems to revolve around the concept of “i don’t have it now but I’ll have it by x date”

Because many of us have large balances in our isas and aren’t going to waste thousands because our broker protected themselves from a short term event ?

I care more that my isa is still working in 20 years time than the ability to play cfd games with redditors

International brokers are t212 doesnt have a say i think

Sorry what illegal activity did you say the broker did? I didn’t catch that?

Hope they don’t decide to do something illegal with all our isa funds at some point like maybe stop you from withdrawing it to protect themselves from having to find the money to pay everyone out

Manipulation is illegal, they have proved they can’t be trusted

T212 have reopened trading AMC and GME :rofl::rofl:

The people at the other side of the trade are all the people holding short positions.

The right people with the right mind set will make serious money on this

Excellent Read, I managed to capture some of the events as it happened and watched in amazement as the market went mental.
I personally had 2 shares but caught up in the delayed executions for sales doe to market volume etc.
I have a few questions if you don’t mind answering please?
What is Wsb
Where would you find information on high short interest / percentage of float as per your first table.
Can you advise on the website that can provide a comparison graph of stocks as per your graph.

Thanks for the post. :+1:

Welcome to the forum!
Wsb stands for WallStreetBets and is a subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/) on Reddit where people discuss large losses/gains and in general discuss really risky trades.

Information on high short interest for us stocks can easily be viewed on yahoo finance or finviz. But the table itself came from: https://www.highshortinterest.com/ . Ortex in more highly regarded but less beginner friendly GameStop example GameStop Corp., NYSE:GME | Short Interest | Flagged Changes | Largest Shorts | Cost To Borrow - ORTEX (I personally don’t have their service as it’s way to expensive for me but just opening in incognito everytime you look at it gives you one page view each time)

The graph was created using Koyfin, but Yahofinance also has similar functionalities, I just like Koyfing more because it has more in depth graphing functionality.
