Tesla stock split

I am fuming that fractional shares are not split. I also had no idea this happened.
Checked my portfolio and noticed Tesla had vanished.
Not impressed.

@Gavin, first of all - nice table! How do you create one of those?

My calculation for your Tesla shares is that you should’ve received $221.059, which is Ā£165.5624625524266 at an exchange rate of 1.3352 (this is the exchange rate over the entire weekend). I’ve used a sell price of $2210.59/$442.118, which is the last price shown in extended hours in the CFD platform. I don’t know if this is the correct price.

I see. I had missed that you were talking about CFD positions. Trading 212 staff did not give us any prior information about how those would be treated at split.

@Supraman thanks its just cells copy-pasted from a google sheet directly in to the comment box.

Yes your Ā£165.56… is exaclty what i would expect. My 0.5 holding seems to have been valued at Ā£164.86, hence the Ā£1.30 that seems to be missing.

Your assumed sell price of $442.118 matches what they’ve put in their update here: https://helpcentre.trading212.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012525157-Tesla-Apple-stock-split

I think you are the first person to link to that update! I had no idea it existed.

It would’ve been nice if somebody from Trading 212 had posted on this topic to alert us to the existence of that article. Maybe there wouldn’t have been so much confusion.

That’s a fairly decent article. Annoyingly, it contains some answers to questions that I’ve posted over the last couple of days.

In an earlier post, I wondered whether they would use the regular hours sell price from ISA/INVEST or the extended hours sell price from CFD. It turns out the answer is both, which I wasn’t expecting.

So, for ISA/INVEST, they used the sell price $2,212.29 / 5 = $442.458, which they’ve rounded up to $442.46. I was expecting $2,212.26 (3p less) because that is the figure currently shown in ISA/INVEST, but I realise it doesn’t make much difference.
And for CFD, they used the sell price $2,210.59 / 5 = $442.118, which they’ve rounded up to $442.12.

They haven’t included the exchange rate that they used, which makes it difficult for people to check that they’ve received the correct funds.

@Gavin, my earlier calculation used the CFD price. If you’re using ISA/INVEST, it should be:

0.5 x $442.458 = $221.23, which is £165.6905332534452 at an exchange rate of 1.3352.

I may just have lost you an additional 13p!

Maybe there is some hope that the split can be reversed and applied like invest and isa tomorrow but I guess that might be impossible now.

@Richard.W, in the ā€œultimate source of truthā€ there is no indication whether it is describing ISA, INVEST and/or CFD, so it was reasonable to assume that it applied to all of them.

However, I did seek clarification prior to the split:

All of these questions/comments were completely ignored.

Thankfully, all of my CFD positions in Tesla and Apple were whole numbers of shares. However, if they weren’t, I’d be pretty annoyed.

Welcome to the forum!

How many Tesla shares did you have in ISA, INVEST and/or CFD?

We were told:

When I asked what a ā€œplatform messageā€ was, I was told that it was one of those messages that appear in the app. I certainly didn’t see such a message.

Thank you.
I only had Ā£100 worth. It’s tiny I know but I had no notification about them being cashed out for me. I made a nice profit but wanted to hold.
Learn something new every day right?

Right. Are you going to buy back in tomorrow? You could place a limit order at the price your shares were sold, so that you’re back where you started. Of course, if the price goes straight up then you might miss out. You could risk a market order but you might end up paying too much.

At such a low value of £100 I will buy back in and be more careful on fraction shares going forward.

Yes this is an ISA. This all seems to be confirmed by the market value of my one share being stated as £331.37 and a result of £138.81, meaning the share cost me 331.37-138.81 = £192.56 which correlates to 2/3 of my original cost of £288.84 in my table for my 1.5 shares (which was 0.3 pre-split).

If we take that ISA price of $442.458 and my current maket value, then 442.458 / 331.37 = 1.33523 seems to confirm the exchange rate.

So I still think I’m missing a couple of quid. :frowning:

@Supraman
YES, I agree T212 should have posted in app notification link, the way they posted ADR stock for ISA eligibility. Not all App user are active or even know about this community forum’s.

Thankfully I was able to read split breakdown posted my @Martin few days back and community responses.

However

What’s going on with Trading212? The way they’ve handled this stock split is horrendous and so many conflicting updates that it seems their ā€˜definitive’ answers aren’t so definitive.

Please can the community run the numbers I’ve provided below, so that I can cross-reference your calculations with mine, in-case there’s been a development regarding how the split is being handled by Trading212, that I’m missed in this 438 comment-long thread.

Pre Tesla stock-split, I had 2.50183345 shares.

At this current moment in time, my account shows that I now have 12 shares, meaning 0.50916725 has been sold-off (as 2.50183345 Ɨ 5 = 12.50916725. Then, 12.50916725 - 12 = 0.50916725)

Despite this, my account shows a deposit of +£54.53. My total free funds shows £167.97.

Explanation please! When you run the numbers, what do your calculations say I’m due back for the 0.50916725 share?

Plus, Trading 212 hasn’t updated Tesla’s price to reflect the 5 to 1 split! They don’t give a breakdown of what the exchange rate or precise close price they worked off was when processing the split etc! This is a mess!

See message below. Your 0.50916725 was sold at price $442.46 if equity shares, slightly different if CFD. So $225.286. Look for this is in your free funds and pie cash if some of the holding was in one or more pies.

I make it $225.286141435, which is £168.7283863353805 at an estimated 1.3352.

Did you have £0 free funds before the split? If so, the £167.97 is quite close, although slightly less than expected, as others have observed.

To get your result requires an exchange rate of 1.341228442192058, which hasn’t happened recently. The difference might be explained by commission on the exchange rate, but I thought that was very low.

This is why I’ve repeatedly asked for confirmation of the exchange rate used.

I think the £54.53 might just be your profit.

guys the CDF value is still in 2211. why is that?
