US withholding tax for foreigners vs stock income

Hi all. I am a bit confused with US withholding tax & W-8BEN form lately.

As I know, US withholding tax is applied for dividends earned from US based stocks, usually it’s 30%, but can be as low as 15% if US has an agreement with your country of residence.

But does it apply for income generated by buying/selling US based stocks?

Let’s say I bought 10 Apple shares worth $1000 and sold them a year later for $2500, generating a gross income of $1500. Will there be any US tax taken from that income or not?

I am a resident of a EU country if that matters.

Will appreciate your help.

Thanks.

I think I figured this out - it’s called capital gains tax. And if you are a foreigner and not a resident of US, then you’ll pay 0% tax in US. But you’ll still have to pay tax in your country of residence (which is expected). Hope this knowledge will help someone here.
