Theyā€™re ā€˜mitigatingā€™ our risk. How kind of them. I would much prefer they spent their time and efforts in improving the infrastructure so that the service stays up. Not being able to trade leaves many people in a seriously detrimental position - potentially losing large sums. Or not being able to make large sums. But somehow, by only allowing us to sell (when we can actually log in),they are mitigating our risk.

Such actions should be investigated by authorities !! No body cares about peopleā€™s money but they care about hedge fundā€™s money which is shame !!! Big cats always protect each others even the media like CNBC started spreading fake news to protect big cats !!! weā€™re living in a bad world !!

David it would be better if you said that you were limiting purchases of those stocks to help reduce loads on the systems (if that is true).

It isnā€™t the role of t212 to interfere in free markets like this ie by judging the risk for people.

So while the decision might be right to serve all your clients better I think the reasoning is ill-judged.

If you are looking to mitigate risk for your clients, shouldnā€™t all shares be in reduce only mode.

Trading is all about risk - why is it neccesary to stop the buying of GME, and why would you choose to reduce a shareholders position - itā€™s ridiculous.

Is this legal? Seems pretty unreasonableā€¦

I would appreciate more details on the AMC buying suspension.

Is this a short term measure (few hours)?
Can we buy AMC again at any point today?!

@team212

Thank you

My guess at what they mean by mitigating risk is that yesterday IB (who process 212 orders) were so overloaded with orders on these two stocks that they rejected both BUY and SELL orders.

By doing this, Iā€™m guessing they are hoping people who have money at stake can sell/reduce their positions if they want. If they let everyone buy/sell then weā€™d probably end up with a repeat of yesterday where everybody was panicking that they couldnā€™t sell.

Awful situation and itā€™s amazing the likes of IB canā€™t handle this volume (canā€™t or wonā€™t for you conspiracy theorists out there!)

Edit: Of course I could be completely wrong, this is just my interpretation of the move.

It sickens me how the rich and powerful always get it done one way or anotherā€¦

Now they only let you sell so go figure if itā€™s a consliracy theory or someone really wants to you to sellā€¦

Did you even bother to read my message???

You do realise that there are loads of hedge funds long right now, and will have been long since we started the squeeze??? What motivation would they have for wanting the price to fall???

Controlled markets, its all about control

I like T212 and will continue to use it in the near future. However, they are on the wrong side of history right now. Big Hedge funds have been allowed to manipulate markets for too long and for once we, the retail investors, have managed to take back some of that power in the form of Gamestop and other such companies.

I could go on for while about why I think this is an important movement but I wonā€™t as Iā€™m sure there will be a lot of back lash but the question still stands - why is Trading212 stopping us from trading these companies because I do not believe for one second it is because of ā€˜high demandā€™.

This is unethical, and coming from someone who invests long term and truly am not fussed about short term yolo stocks. But how can you stop people from trading stocks for ā€œmitigating riskā€ while CFDs and leveraged products exist on your platform? The main attraction to t212 is the freedom to choose and low costs.

You are not our financial advisor or parents, itā€™s our money. Yesterday when most platforms struggled I was okay with the outage and understood, yesterday when you said there were issues with your intermediary I understood but how can this be justified that you just decide that youā€™re going to stop people trading stocks available on your platform? Again, unacceptable.

Really? You choose to screw millions of regular working people to ā€œmitigate risk for our clientsā€? We all know who you mean by ā€œour clientsā€, and itā€™s not us.

Go ahead, when this is all over youā€™ll see how many of us will mitigate our own risk by choosing another broker.

Hi @Team212, since you guys are ā€œmitigating riskā€ can you please close buying other stocks too, since that is ā€œmitigating riskā€. Very selective donā€™t you think? When I was on CFD losing money, why wasnā€™t there ā€œmitigatingā€ risk?

If it was all about control theyā€™d force close positions and would have done it days ago. Take your tinfoil hat off.

At the centre of this are companies like Citadel, likely making millions of this short squeeze. This whole ā€œthe hedge funds are stopping usā€ is getting too blown out of proportion. The stock being pushed higher isnā€™t just thanks to retail investors anymore, any hedge fund with an active high risk long book will have joined us.
