st weeks, the Portuguese financial regulator (CMVM) and legal authorities are starting to pursue YouTubers/Facbookers/Instagramers (“influencers”) due to so called financial influencing or “financial information/education” that some person as call their “services”.

Main reasons are: “Influencers” don’t have financial licenses to operate, don’t have legal qualifications (Higher Education and/or Professional Certifications in the area of Finance/Economics), they violate financial regulations/legislation, including on financial marketing.

From the sounds of it, the regulators have the right idea, but poor implementation likely as always with everything.

Surely all that needs added, is a disclaimer at the start or end of the YouTube chat or whatever, of the credentials of those talking. Otherwise you are sort of restricting freedom of speech or whatever.

I don’t know if a disclaimer is enough. The freedom of speech is important, but is also dangerous. As we already saw people promoting “alternative realities” (conspiracy theories, negationism, discriminating ideologies) and illegal proposals (Scams, Ponzi Schemes, money laundering, etc). Or promoting wonderful “medicines” to some illness or spreading wrong and fake information on Health matters.
