HSBC deposit issue

Anybody having issues depositing money from HSBC account today?

I’ve had my current account linked to my T212 Stock and shares ISA for years now and usually when I deposit I get asked to provide a Transaction code from the HSBC app put that in and happy days money deposited!

However today instead of getting asked for the code I’m getting a list of requirements from HSBC. At the top it says “making a payment either a third party” then asks for the following: sort code & account number, credit card number (never owned one), Invest directly account number (I don’t even know what this is?!) PIMS account number (don’t know what this is either?!) & Online banking User ID.

I contacted T212 on the chat function on the App and got told to contact HSBC, I have done so and just been told “it’s for extra security”

However im stuck, I don’t know what half of it is, and even if I can fill it out I Darent incase it causes issues on T212 side? Don’t want to try to make a withdrawal at a later date and not be able to because of this, maybe it will look like I’ve linked a new bank account or something? I don’t know I’m stressed to bits about it, markets down and I’m wanting to get in at these prices.

Has anyone else who deposits with HSBC been asked the same thing today or is it business as usual?

Update: So I was being an idiot turns out it wasn’t asking for all of those things, rather asking for one of them, so I went with Sort code and account number, it then gave me a QR code to scan, and then asked me to open HSBC app to scan the QR code.. how can I scan the QR code that is on the same bloody screen!!

Will have to try again on computer :man_facepalming:

Update 2: Still no further foward. Logged in on laptop, tells me to do it on my phone. Do it on my phone asks me to scan QR code which I can’t scan because it’s asking me to scan the QR code on my phone.. with my phone.

Im at a dead end here bank can’t help, Trading 212 can’t help. Can’t deposit cash. I just hope I can withdraw if it comes it.

5/6 years of work with this account. I’m gutted.

Yup I’m having the same issue.

It’s impossible to deposit funds from my HSBC bank account into Trading 212, unless you have 2 separate phones where one has the trading212 app and the other has the HSBC banking app to scan the QR code (which I don’t).

The PC HSBC online banking app doesn’t help because it directs us to our phone to open online banking there, to access the QR code scanner.

It would be nice they gave us the option to also use the old method instead (Transaction code like CRG mentioned) while they fix this

Hopefully it gets fixed soon! and Thanks CRG for starting this community post, I couldn’t find anywhere else mentioning this issue which was worrying me.

I use both HSBC and Trading 212, but just use the bank transfer function. Generally, I just wire to my Invest account and whatever I want in one of the ISA’s I transfer internally in the T212 app. But it’s also possible to send the money straight into the ISA’s, by using the relevant account number as transfer reference.

Glad it’s not just me having this issue, yeah fingers crossed HSBC sort this out soon, I ended up depositing via Debit card this morning and got charged for it but better than not being able to deposit at all.

I did make a small withdrawal the other day just as a test, and I’m pleased to say that still went through just fine with no issues.

Good point about having 2 phones, Il have to see if my old phone will still boot up and try using the 2 phones to get around the matter like you say, bloody chew on though!

@Vince_atp are you using Android phone?

Mine is android and having the issue, yet my wife has i-phone and still deposited as normal. Wonder if its an android only issue.

and it might be linked to TrueLayer as well, maybe they’re testing some new faster forms of money deposits?
I’ll probably just wait for a week, or I might try the awesome solution Fossil_expo mentioned if I run out of patience hehe

Possibly yes, I have flagged this issue with HSBC, they have gave me a case number and said they will keep me updated so will let you know what they say.

Have you tried screen capping the code then transfering the pic to your computer.

If you connect your phone to your computer you might be able to get the mobile screen to come up on the computer screen.

If you have a printer you could print out the code then scan it.

Tried screenshotting the code, and sending to to my wife’s phone then try scan it with my phone but it doesn’t work, just keeps saying unsuccessful.

HSBC instant deposits are broken. I messaged support about it sometime ago but they didn’t understand the issue and just sent me a canned response. I am able to deposit via bank transfer but it’s not instant which is a shame, but works ok.

Thanks for your advice, I was hoping it would be resolved so I can keep my deposits the same way, as I worry when I come to withdraw in the future If there has been multiple depot methods it may create problems?

Might be by only choice at this rate though, I have done some via debit card but the fees are ridicluous

I’ve had this from different accounts - money needs to go back to where it came from first, then you can withdraw profits to the account of your choice.

If I use the bank transfer option (instead of instant transfer) from the same bank account should be ok though?

Crazy really what if someone closed there orginal bank account and changed banks, they saying they can’t withdraw what they put in originally? Surely not?!

No you reach out to 212, answer some security stuff and they remove the record.
