New Web App (Beta)

I like it too, but apparently it’s a mixed bag for most people. What’s a welcome update for some is a step back for others.
It’s still a beta, so I guess a lot of improvements are coming.

Largely this :point_up:I don’t use the web app much so judging by some of the feedback here thought it would be a quantum leap in terms of differences - it seems to be to be largely iterative changes, bringing the various platforms closer together.

I understand what you @VicVega and @adamski are saying but I think for many the new desktop will bring some great features but will be just lacking and a step back in other ways. If you use the mobile app then the new desktop is probably good overall. However, many things require more clicks, require going back and forth between different screens/sections (ie closing the charts screen to go back to the portfolio list even if just to see available free cash to go back to charts to trade). The charts are great but aren’t showing the average price, alert or order levels… Also in general there is massive screen area unused/wasted.

You have companies such as tradestation who are offering a completely programmable/customisable stock screener built on the IBKR workstation and tool. T212 have, if anything, dumbed down the interface and they have integrated tradingview charts but in a minimalist way.

In CFD you could previously see all the take profit, stop loss and trailing stop levels for every open position. All of that has gone. There is lots of detail lost and little or none added (just empty screen space). My impression is that this has been heavily driven by two goals - have common code base between mobile and desktop and integrate a minimal version of tradingview.

Overall it may appeal to many but I suspect it will be frustrating for traders and lacks depth. Whereas some companies are developing more sophisticated tools (stock screeners, analysis tools, programmable/customisable tools) T212 appears to be going in the opposite direction.

It’s disappointing that more sophisticated tools, support for multiple screens, better use of screen real estate, etc just don’t seem to be on the horizon.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. We’re reading and internalising every single post. Keep them coming!

Yesterday, we hotfixed one of the most reported bugs - the shrinking portfolio value text.

We’re now also putting you straight into Home Advanced View if this was your preference in the legacy app.

Expect more fixes and improvements prior to the full release. For example, we will reduce the disruptive nature of notifications and look into enhancements to our TradingView integration.

Next week, we’ll share more details on what’s to come.

@Wit a couple of suggestion:

  • in the main desktop app there is the top level “menu” bar with the account button top left and home/pie/search/social/menu in the centre and notification button on the right. It could be good to have “charts” as a top level section rather than opening in a subpanel. This would aid navigation.

  • in the charts you can use multi chart layouts and configure then to different settings… however, the tab for a multi chart layout just says “Split view”. It would be good to have the tab text editable. Below is a screenshot. I want to create a “split view” displaying AI and another for semiconductor another for Pharma etc. so it would be good to be able to edit the tab text. Each is then a mini watchlist in chart form

t2 chart5

It looks good but it seems a bit too big for me though, especially the buy and sell buttons.

This does not really suit 13" laptops really.

I kind of preferred the last UI but if you could add the social and news sections on each stock would have been perfect.

Hey @WakeMeUp

  • Have you tried going to Home and selecting “Advanced View”? Sounds like something that might fit your use case.

  • We’ll add the option to rename tabs prior to the full release.

I wish me to show 12 charts (4 rows / 3 columns) in one split view again.

I don’t have the down arrow menu on “home” on my screen

t212 top level

I have to select a company from the list of companies and the app displays the company info, chart etc on the right and on the chart I have to click the “expand” icon which I have circled on the screenshot below

t212 chart expand

That then opens the charts and in the charts I can create a tab with a multi-chart layout and can configure each of the sub-charts but the tab says split view.

This PC has two 2560x1440 screens but my new PC has three screens (3840x2160) so there is a huge amount of wasted screen space on some parts of the app

Edit: another nice feature would be able to change the settings for all sub-charts in a single tab. ie in the screenshot above to change the time interval for all 8 charts in the tab so that all 8 charts are showing the same time period/interval… At the moment I have to click on each sub-chart individually and adjust it. I suspect that this may be a limitation of tradingview that you can’t change but at least worth me asking. Also when I open the charts up and have a split view tab it seems to sometimes automatically move some sub-charts time range so the chart is skewed sideways which is annoying and it seems to forget the auto setting for the vertical scale

Make sure you tap on the “House” icon. That’s our Home tab, and that’s where the Advanced View is located.

@Wit thanks very much. I’ve now found it.

I don’t want the left column but can adjust this to zero width so its then invisible so that’s fine. However, there is still a reasonable amount of screen space taken by things I don’t need/want so the chart is smaller than going into the charts screen. However, the advanced view is a good overall single screen but annoyingly the left column reappears every time you load the advanced view.

Also once I’m in the advanced view I can’t see a way to get into the charts screen. In my second screenshot above the circled expand button that did open the charts screen has disappeared. Thus I am stuck in advanced view and can’t go into the charts but if I go back into standard, open the charts, exit and go back to advanced then I get the annoying left column again…

That’s a bug. We’ll fix it.

If you want to open an instrument’s chart while in the Advanced view, either select an instrument from a Watchlist (left column) or click on the Plus button, which will allow you to search for a specific instrument and add a Chart tab for it.

Thanks. Yes I understand in advanced I can click an instrument or click plus. However, that opens a chart within the chart pane. I was talking about going into the chart screen that doesn’t have the additional clutter/panes - ie the screen illustrated in my previous post. I’d like a screen just dedicated to charts and the advanced view is only partially there. In the advanced view having the portfolio as a row below the charts both reduced the screen size for the charts and results in the portfolio only listing a few companies so if anything it would be better to list the portfolio in the left column. I guess the ideal solution would be for users to complete customise the “advanced” view and define how many panels they want and what each one displays and where its positioned/size and to be able to save the layout to a named template and thus switch between templates. Some people might like the current left column that I hate and some might like the portfolio displayed as a row below the charts whereas I would put it as a left column… Being able to configure and save layouts would solve this. However, I would still want a screen just dedicated to charts with a minimal column on the right for company info and buttons (or for all of this to be in a popup).

Another big thumbs down for me on the new app. Was so looking forward to it. Legacy is so much cleaner and more organised and easier to navigate. Feels like a big step backwards to me. :slightly_frowning_face:

@Wit I have just logged in on my second PC. None of my chart settings are there so all of the “split view” chart tabs I have created aren’t there. I therefore assume they are stored in a cookie and not part of the account settings on the server. Consider being able to save the screen layout, chart templates, chart settings including tabs (especially multi chart split view tabs) so that they are automatically loaded if you login on more than one desktop system

We’ll do our best to have charts/tabs sync across devices for the full release. If not, then soon after.

Why I think the new simplified app-like “Search” option is worst:

  • We can’t reorder the results (by name, exchange, etc).

  • Without the price, how can we know the actual currency, specially if the tickers are the same (as ISIN as equal), as the new “Search” option doesn’t mention the price currency? (Selecting randomly the results to discover the price currency and go back and for1t until we have success, isn’t user-friendly and time consuming).

  • Beta “Search” option is only a third of screen space, meaning 2 thirds are empty (maybe wider screens, the empty space is larger).

  • Due to new format, the “Search” results are less in the screen, we have to scroll more, again less user-friendly and time consuming.

Btw, isn’t bad to have 2 different UI (Desktop/Mobile), it’s a plus, people can choose the UI that best suits to their preference.

Startups usually start with a mobile platform and afterwards do a desktop platform (that is very similar to the mobile app, a scaled/wider mobile platform), with time they will change the desktop version. T212 is doing the opposite, by having a different and complementary desktop platform to a large mobile platform on a computer.

Some users, like me, use mainly the desktop platform (higher screens, more professional tools, more user-friendly) and use the mobile app only as a backup when outside the computer, to watch their portfolio and ultimately do a urgent trade.

The switch to the Trading View chart is great. There are a lot of missing features that trading view offers on their platform but that is probably work in progress or some can’t be moved to a third party trading site for obvious reasons.
The most pressing missing features for me are bid and ask are not on the chart, for opened position
We can’t set stop loss and take profit on the chart and even if you set them they are not displayed on the cart.
I would like to have the ability to execute orders directly on the chart instead of relaying on the right side panel.
I don’t see me entries on the chart, where a entered or exited a trade.

Like most of the comments on this topic the upper part nav bar is a waste of space and it does seem like a mobile app.

The most important feature that was missing in the old version and the new version is the ability to have a compact result list where you could see your aggregated daily PNL on grouped by symbol.

As a sidenote I actually create my own browser extension to allow me follow my trades. A trading journal for the web app.

@Wit there is a bug in the charts with multi-chart layout (split view).

I have created a tab with a 2x4 multi chart layout. For each sub chart I can select the individual chart and click the ticker icon (top left of the sub-chart) and click “select chart” to select a company to display in the chart. I have created a 2x4 layout and set 6 of the 8 sub-charts to display different companies. I click the top right chart and set that up for a chosen company and all fine. I click the third chart on the second row and click select chart and chose a company and instead of updating that chart it modifies the top right company. I reset the top right chart and go back to second row third chart and try to set that up and again it gets applied to the top right chart.

edit: I have moved some of the sub charts backwards or forwards to reorder them so my positional references may not be the original position of the particular sub-charts
