Am I correct in thinking that the cashback rate is 1.5% until the start of October (still capped at £20/month) before going to 0.5%?
No, where did you get 1.5%?
It’s mentioned in the app but I haven’t seen it referred to on the forum
oh wow, mine says the same! Must be new?
Thanks. I wasn’t really complaining about not using the back strip, only expressing my surprise as in my mind the image of a card always comes with the traditional strip
Sure, I’ll first wait until I make another purchase, then get some screenshots, thanks.
I bet you wrote this as a semi-joke but very few things support garmin pay, would be lovely to use something other then revolut there.
tube to epping forest → run your 20k → milkshake on the way back home, no wallets or phones to carry just your garmin watch <3
Garmin pay is actually really useful. I use it all the time in the pub after a run linked to Starling. People oddly still find it weird when you pay by your watch but it’s one less thing to carry / think about.
Curve is the solution for the 212 card to use Garmin Pay, just need to pay the £5 for the card and then link.
Hopefully my card arrives in time for my trip to Portugal in 12 days! Can I just use start to use my card abroad or do I need to change the currency in my account to EUROs? What’s best? Also are there any restrictions to changing the currency while in a foreign country? Uk based
DYOR but when you use your card abroad you’ll just be charged 0.15% fX fee back to your base currency, unless you have some local currency.
As both get charged 0.15% conversion I would just leave money in base.
Also - have a backup Mastercard, I like Starling for example but there are others.
Would it be possible to turn off DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion) considering how good exchange rate I get from you, I do not want to be scammed by POS with their 10% charge on currency conversion
Yes I agree … I usually try to buy foreign currencies in advance when it’s cheap but mainly euro as I do regular trip there, but other way I convert from base at the point of purchase.
I am planning a trip to the US and will take a Revolut as well.
Has anyone experienced the T212 card in the US ? any challenges with shops and ATM ? I seem to remember a few years ago they use magnetic stripe with signature a lot but this would have changed …
Thanks @Dougal1984 , when are they going to promote you to leader? You’ve given sound advice since I joined this community years ago.
Being conservative, I use different payment networks cards, Visa + Mastercard. Due to some POS restrictions, as some have only contract with one of them due to POS provider fees.
Welcome to Portugal.
Just a heads up, some Portuguese shops don’t accept Visa or Mastercard foreign cards, not mentioning the AMEX and Discover/Diners Club cards (a very rare acceptation), as their POS are limited to the national payment network “Multibanco” from SIBS (company owned by Portuguese banks) due to higher fees to provide support to foreign payment networks like Visa/Mastercard/etc.
This generally happens in small shops and in less touristic places.
Also some shops have minimums to pay with cards, e.g. 3 or 5 EUR due to fees they have to pay to the infrastructure players (POS provider, payment network, etc), A beer could cost less than 2 EUR, a coffee less than 1 EUR.
As they say all power corrupts and all that, I do talk some crap as well at times
@ollie i think Revolut charge an extra 1% fee at weekends, double check though!
All ATMs (could be hidden with some clever language) and honest retailers will ask you if you want to spend in your home currency or with the local currency you are visiting. It is very important to always select local currency. Otherwise POS/ATM will convert the currency for you with a criminal rate and may even charge a fee on top of that. If the merchant does not ask you, tell them explicitly you want to pay in local currency.
I think this exclusively dictated by the POS and merchant. The conversion/fees/VAT and all other garbage will arrive to your card ready with a sum in your home currency, so your card has no way of knowing this transaction. Like I said above always tell/insist to merchant that you want to pay in local currency, so your card then can handle all the conversion internally.
I wonder how well-trained are Trading staff 212 to help with chargeback claims. This is a rare event, but I was impressed how well agents at Chase pursued my chargeback claim against failure of a company to provide the service I had been promised. The merchant refused the claim, but Chase agents persisted a second round of dispute on my behalf. I was very impressed. I doubt Revolut agents would have done as well.
I wonder if Trading 212 card support agents are as well-trained and as customer focused when it comes to support with chargeback as those at Chase. Hopefully, so.
Just got my new card in the mail!
I’m really pleased T212 has offered this, makes having instant access to my money, so much simpler.
I think I will be integrating this card into more of my Day-to-Day banking, this is a great service!!
Thanks T212, what an exciting time this is! So many new things being added to the platform almost daily it seems
Nice One ladies and gents
When I first started using revolut I was 100% sure it’ll completely take over banking world. Then I realised cheap or free service indirectly translates into no or limited service. When things are going nice revolut is good sure, but the moment something goes slightly wrong you start tearing your eyebrows, trying to get past that “chat assistant”
I’ve done very few chargebacks in the past but on the topic, I’ve found even the threat of “i’m gonno maka a chargeback” is effective if you used an AMEX, I think AMEX first asks politely and move to knee breaking stage right after
I have WISE and Rev and now Trading 212. It’s pretty easy to see who offers the best. Its our broker. T212 are industry leaders in my opinion.
T212 should offer free shorts against Robinhood, on their CFD. We could really put some pain on that scumbag company.
