Will we be able to count on the increase in temporary cashback as was done in the UK?

We’re considering extending the period of increased cashback, but I can’t confirm it just yet.

I’ll keep the community posted on that :memo:

As August is coming to an end, will the card for Europeans finally be launched, or is another delay expected?

We will most likely extend the timeline into September.

When do the monthly limits on the card reset? Do they reset at the start of the month or are they rolling?

I am having the same problem.

My Trading 212 card is not being accepted by ATMs in Turkey. The ATMs here will not even let me push the card into the slot. I cannot make the cash withdrawals I want. Could this be because the card does not have a magnetic strip? I often travel in Turkey. It is a disappointment that I cannot use my card to withdraw cash.

The limits are reset at the beginning of each month :repeat:

Yes, it’s due to the lack of magnetic stripe. Our focus with the T212 card is keeping your funds as safe as possible. That’s why we decided to remove the least secure element on our cards—the magnetic stripe.

The magnetic stripe on a debit card contains sensitive information such as the cardholder’s account number, expiration date, and sometimes even the cardholder’s name. However, it’s considered less secure compared to newer technologies for a few reasons:

  1. Easy to Copy: The data stored on the magnetic stripe can be easily copied using skimming devices, which are small gadgets that thieves attach to card readers at ATMs or point-of-sale terminals. These devices can quickly capture all the information stored on the magnetic stripe when a card is swiped.
  2. Static Data: The information stored on the magnetic stripe remains static. Once it’s copied, it can be used multiple times until the card is reported stolen or the bank detects fraudulent activity, making it vulnerable to unauthorized use.
  3. Limited Encryption: The data on the magnetic stripe is not typically encrypted, making it easier for hackers to read and exploit. In contrast, newer technologies like EMV (chip) cards use dynamic authentication methods and cryptographic protocols, making it much harder for thieves to clone cards or create counterfeit transactions.
  4. International Weakness: Magnetic stripe cards are more common in the United States and some other countries. However, many regions have transitioned to chip-based cards due to security concerns. This can make magnetic stripe cards stand out as targets for fraud in regions where chip cards are the norm.

Because of these vulnerabilities, many banks and financial institutions are gradually phasing out magnetic stripe cards in favour of more secure alternatives like EMV chip cards and contactless payments. Mastercard officially mandated that new cards should be preferably issued without a magnetic strip from April 2024.

It is a pity that so many ATM machines still require the magnetic strip. I might try going into the bank and see if it is possible to withdraw over the counter from a bank teller.

I’ve now tried five different banks in Turkey. None of the ATMs will accept a card that lacks the magnetic strip. Many of these ATMs look new. So magnetic strips are clearly not being phased out.

signed up myself and my wife months ago in NL for TD212 card. the card page keeps saying coming this summer. tik tok tik tok. Dutch summer may not be as long as you think. :joy:

Curious too about that, plus another question, is there a daily limit in the amount we can spend, can someone for example buy a car or something similar by using this card ?

It’s in the help guide, there is a limit yes.

Is this maybe an indication to an upcoming 212 European card release?

IMHO, its seems referring to a new campaign/promotion starting in 3 days, but for referrals/invitations on new T212 customers.

Yes, indeed that is what it is at its face value. One can only hope that it’s a promotion in combination with a very sought after feature. A promotion rarely comes without cause, and this would be the perfect opportunity to push a card and receive new clients.

It’s of course only speculation so far. We’ll see in a few days :slightly_smiling_face:

What’s the approximate wait time in EU between signing up for the wait list and getting the card?

The card is not released in the EU yet, therefore waiting list. All EU clients are on waiting list at the moment. Myself included :hourglass_flowing_sand:

As summer has now ended in the Northern Hemisphere we can only assume that “Coming this summer” actually refers to the Southern Hemisphere which starts in the 21st of December. I think we will receive the card as a christmas gift!

In all seriousness though, delays are normal but I think we deserve an update
